Re: The Killing (AMC Sunday Nights @ 10PM EST)
Here's an interview that talks quite a bit about what to expect next season.
To me, the finale left me so unsatisfied, but I guess that was the point. I felt like I had invested 13 hours into figuring out this mystery, only to have it remain unsolved.
I will join for a second season though because, as it has been said before, these types of AMC shows (BB, MM and TWD) are really about the characters, acting, writing, etc. Time and again AMC produces some great stuff that is really only rivaled by HBO.NCAA: Pitt, Arkansas State
MLB: Pirates
NFL: Steelers
NBA: Lakers
NHL: PenguinsComment

Re: The Killing (AMC Sunday Nights @ 10PM EST)
The writer hit the nail on the head.
You HAVE to be kidding me saying The Killing is about the characters. Mad Men is about the characters. Breaking Bad is about the characters. These are two of the best shows on television. Even a zombie show, The Walking Dead, is about the characters. The Killing is about finding out who killed Rosie (it's the tagline for goodness sake!).
Spoiler
We spent 13 hours, red herring after red herring (lazy writing by about the fifth red herring), and one really out of place character development episode, which would all result in a crappy twist at the end.
I'm gonna sit out next season. I'll lurk around some message boards to find out who killed Rosie and spent those 13 hours watching something that is actually good.
*For the record, I really liked this show up until the last 5 minutes of last night's episode. Really liked it. So disappointed.
SpoilerTake for example, Rosie's dad, who at times is sympathetic and feels emotion, yet at other times he's conflicted with the loss of his daughter and resorts to violence, and you understand the struggle he has undergone in trying to put mob past behind him.
Darren, the politician, is also a multi-layered character as he is often conflicted with the loss of his wife who obviously meant a lot to him, yet in coping with this he engages in mulitple affairs with women, some of which are illegal.
Holder in the first few episodes seems like a shady cop, especially that seen where he elicits information from the two girls in a rather unprofessional way, yet his explanation to Linden seems legitimate and as a viewer you just think he's a clever cop who's honed his skills in Narc duty.
But to me, this show is definitely a character study, which is evidenced by the episode where it's just Linden and Holder as the characters for the whole episode. That was one of the best episodes of any show I have ever seen.
Also did anyone find it a little unrealistic for a show that has been about gritty realism, that Rosie's dad was able to get into the hospital without any questioning from hospital staff and see his victim? You think after a vigilante crime like that, they'd have a picture of Stan or at least security detail outside of the guy's room knowing that Stan would probably put up bail.Comment

I didn't really think about the realism, I just wondered why no one asked who he was. And how does Ahmed's wife not recognize Stan from a newspaper or something?
There are some definite holes in the logic of the plot. I'm still not extremely happy with Holder's turn. He was really adamant about locking up Ahmed and then suddenly he's working for someone to lock up Richmond? It's trivial unless they can explain that he turned sometime between the two being primary suspects."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: The Killing (AMC Sunday Nights @ 10PM EST)
The thing thats really annoying is the creator said that this murder will be wrapped up in like the first few episodes next season and a new murder will happen. Why not just knock it out this season? I mean there were at least 3 useless episodes that could have all of its plot easily inserted into other episodes.Comment

I really dislike having a story arc last shortly into the next season. I wonder if the next case will be wrapped up by the end of season 2.Comment

My wife and I started watching this on demand last week. We have a few episodes left to go and not a bad show when you put all the plot holes aside. The characters have been good, just kind of dislike the twists and turns each episode.Comment

Not sure how long it has been available, but Season 1 is on Netflix for anyone that hasn't seen it.
I will continue my taking a year off with AMC show plan. Not going to watch The Killing season 2 until it hits Netflix.
I need to rewatch Season 1 because I'm looking through posts and I've forgotten some of these things."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied.
