I'm thinking Deb will find out at least something about Dexter next season. The part where Dexter talks about keeping a secret is not always a bad thing and how much she loves Dexter is my guess her main conflict next season.

Just watched it and it's hard for me to express in words how much this show has jumped the shark. INCEST? Seriously? Like WTF. It's come to that to try and get cheap shocks to maintain ratings. I was on another site and this was being insinuated in the preview and everybody just posted how ridiculous that would be. These writers are in crack. What a joke of a season. Game of Thrones is medievel fantasy, incest is common but a brother\sister act after 35+ years together? It wasn't compelling, it was uncomfortable because it made no sense. Looks like the writers have totally committed to the ADD crowd as everything is just rushed. There is no tension. I've seen more build up in a SNL skit.

Besides that Hanks is his usual comical self. Watching him put Dexter in that ring of fire (takes alot of talent to get a perfect ring of fire in the ocean) looked something again out of the 60's Batman show (and just like the villain he leaves before he sees Dexter die, it would hurt him to wait 5 minutes to make sure Dexter doesn't jump out of the boat?) Why not just shoot him in the head? Would have been alot easier. And Dex leaving a video message on the killer's phone. Some of this stuff has to be written by 9 year olds. They aren;t even trying at this point to cover up plot holes.

I love the convenience of Bautista getting caught by Travis so Travis can take his pass and give it to the woman to use at the station. How was she planning to get in there if Bautista didn't do them a favor and show up at the house? It was pretty cool that Travis had to explain to Bautista "I'm gonna kill you now" Uhhhh, just do it. Thank god that 5 seconds of praying was just enough for Quinn to show up and put out a huge fire with a small blanket in 3 seconds. Oi Vey!

And Travis repainting Dexter's face in like 5 seconds in what looks like the best image of Dexter I have ever seen. That was the biggest unintentional laugh of the entire series. Me and the wife were chuckling for 5 minutes before getting grossed out by the incest. I don't care if the reality show crowd is watching this show now and want total fantasy and a superhero Dexter, because the writers need to be fired right away before they get down to next season. Even as a comedy this show is failing there too.

And of course the last episode will have Travis kidnap Dexter's kid just like I said weeks ago. Boy that's compelling TV but i guess for them unpredictable means Deb's incest dreams. Hopefully that's swept under the rug by the next episode like they do with every other side plot.

Honestly if you rewatched season 1 and then this season back to back, any sane person would think this season was put together as a joke for the Xmas party. Very few cable shows have fallen this far this fast. Too bad.

This show is starting to lose me, things are just a little TOO convienent for dexter. I'll keep watching because this show has its moments. But the writing is slipping more and more with each episode.

I'm not a negative person but I agree, especially the last paragraph. I like to re-watch shows time to time so at the beginning of Season 6 I started re-watching back from Season 1 until the end of Season 5 and this one feels different, especially the Dexter character. IMO it starts to have issues in Season 4 (see: Laguerta/Batista story) and Season 5 isn't as good but much better than I remember. Season 6 is 10 steps off.

I think the problem is that they are handling the character of Dexter badly, in the past that was always not just the best part of the show, but if the side plots were boring it wasn't a big deal. Without Dexter being an intriguing character, there's nothing to the show. BTW two interviews with Michael C Hall:

A lot of wild things happened in this episode, but the most interesting was the introduction of some weird, incestuous sexual tension between Deb and Dexter. So your TV step-sister who may have feelings for your character also happens to be your real-life ex-wife. Are the writers just trying to mess with you at this point?

Absolutely. [Laughs] But not without our blessing. Jennifer and I were aware that the story was moving in this direction. We laugh about it, we shake our heads ... but you know, in as much as there are inevitable parallels, we're both very professional and committed to telling this story.

And frankly, whatever's happened with Jennifer and me and our relationship's evolution notwithstanding, Dexter in the first episode says, "If I could ever have feelings for anyone, I'd have them for Deb." I think those two characters have been on some kind of collision course from the get-go.

As far as things being convenient or happening just right? If every show made it completely realistic in the way things happened there would never be a "hero" in movies or television. Of course things line up just right in this show, it's television not real life.

Clearly I am not as critical as most people on these forums. I like to enjoy the shows I like without picking them apart and focusing on what I don't like. (Granted the posts on here are nothing compared to the way people completely bash anything EA related on these forums.)

People don't want Dexter to be completely realistic. They want Dexter to be realistic within the context of the show's world. There was a certain level of realism present in the first two seasons that produced a considerable amount of suspense. (Is Dexter going to get caught? Is Deb/Rita/Doakes going to discover who he really is? Can he stay true to the Code of Harry and resist killing innocents?) That's all gone now. Dexter might as well sprout wings or become a vampire at this point.

Anyways, it has nothing to do with wanting things to be 100% realistic. There's a difference between "contained realism" and what the show is currently doing, which I guess you'd call "uncontained realism". There's also a difference between things lining up just right every now and then compared to, again what the show is currently doing, things lining up just right every single episode and in the most blatant and almost comical of ways.

I know it seems like I've converted to the "This is the worst show on TV right now" group or whatever you want to call it, but I still do love the show. It's not like I sit and watch every episode in utter disgust. However, that doesn't mean I'm not going to call the show out when it gets ridiculous or does something I don't agree with.

And the whole "then don't watch" counter-argument is just lame. Most of us have invested so much time in this show and care about the story and characters to a point where we're still interested to see where those two things are taken.

For me, this season is much better than S5. There are some questionable things this season, but just trying to suspend disbelief and see where they take us. My only disappointment is that we get two more seasons after this and I really wish that this show would have wrapped up this season or in S7.

For me, this season is much better than S5. There are some questionable things this season, but just trying to suspend disbelief and see where they take us. My only disappointment is that we get two more seasons after this and I really wish that this show would have wrapped up this season or in S7.

I feel like Season 5 has actually benefited from how this season has turned out. IMO it looks a lot better now, and even then it wasn't that bad of a season. I was mostly just disappointed in how everything was wrapped up so neatly at the end.

Of course, Jordan Chase was also a weak villain like Gellar/Travis (although I feel a lot of that had to do with them not devoting enough time to developing his character), but I felt the Lumen and Barrel Girls story was pretty strong, and there were some great moments like Dexter killing the random guy in the bathroom before Rita's funeral and beating up the guy who abused Astor's friend.

Speaking of which, I don't think there's even been one mention of Astor and Cody this season. I definitely do prefer them having a much smaller role in the show, but for them to basically be non-existent now doesn't seem right to me.

Season 5 was good. I agree that the way it ended was absolutely horrible. It made all of Season 5 worthless. But while watching Season 5, I never felt as disgusted as I do now with Season 6.

And as BnG states above, it's not that I hate the show; I just really dislike how easy they are making it for Dexter.

You can explain his carelessness and dismissal of detail by back tracking and using it to set-up his downfall.

You can't really explain why every solution simply falls on his lap.

There are never any security cameras where he is. It just so happens there is no camera where the defaced statue stood. They can hire a mall cop to drive by and have security cameras every where else (they said this on the show), but there were no security cameras on an expensive statue. That's the epitome of wrapping up a gift for Dexter because the writers didn't know how else he could attract Travis's attention.

I mean it's not like Dexter didn't arrange for a meet at the docks immediately following that entire bloodied statue saga by CALLING TRAVIS ON HIS PHONE.

It's comical. Just bad writing. I love the show, but there's no excuse for the things they are pulling out of their behinds here. It almost feels like one of those threads you start where one person writes a sentence or a paragraph and the next person follows to continue the story. You know that by the second page, no one read the first paragraph so things start falling out of place. Wait, didn't you say Alex was a girl on page one, but now he has a strong, muscular physique?

That was this past Sunday's episode.

This last episode was really terrible.

For me Dexter was once up there with Breaking Bad & Boardwalk Empire. Now it's moved down a couple of notches and is more on True Blood's level. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy Dexter and will continue to watch, but (like other have said) the difference between Season 1 and this season is night and day.

As I expressed in another thread, I'm not big on baby's being kidnapped story lines. Mainly because I'm 99% sure that Harrison isn't in any real danger. There's no way that they end another season with one of Dexter's close family member dying. Is there? I'm not sure how this season can end on a satisfying note. The only possible thing I can think of is if someone close to Dex catches him in the act while he's finishing off Travis. Anything other than that makes this season a waste.
