Which version are you trying to use? The bootable ISO?

      Re: Computer Processor running Hot

My Desktop still is having some heat issues. I went on to radioshack to grab some Arctic Silver 5, so hopefully that'll remedy the situation. The stock heatsink and fan should suffice looking online, I'd really rather not buy another one. I think I'm going to dismantle the whole thing and rebuild it, and organize the wiring a little better too. Definitely not too happy with what it looks like in there. My new processor will be here tomorrow too

Now all I need is a new videocard and I'll be in business. I can run GTA IV at the highest settings currently, but the friggin videocard that was in the system only has DVI. I bought an adapter thinking the sound would carry through the HDMI, but it doesn't... Have to have a DVI to HDMI Adapter that supports sound, which mine doesn't. So now I'll be looking to grab a videocard in the near future, and call it done.

          Re: Computer Processor running Hot

Seriously getting flustered with this situation. It's idling in the low 40's now after some Arctic Silver 5 being properly applied (last guy had it caked on there... literally caked. But now, idling at an "ok" temp, and as soon as I click on a web browser or something, BAM, back up to around 50. That is NOT a good temp to be at, by just doing light web browsing. Popped in 2k11, and it shot to close to 67 C. Something isn't right with it.

The good news is, my new processor will be here tomorrow, based on the tracking info.

Anyone else had a faulty heatsink/hot processor before?

Not for a freakin quad core processor. I left it to run Prime95 last night, just out of curiousity I wake up and go check on it, the processor is at 75 C! Needless to say I shut it down. I missed the fedex guy with my new processor, so I may head to the hub in a few to pick it up.

I'm going to add another fan to the front of the case, drawing air in for my other output fans to see. The guy who built it, although was a PC major, I'm not sure he knew what he was doing. So now I'm going back through and rebuilding it.

You you definitely need a fan or 2 of air being brought in and fans taking them out. Just can't have all fans blowing out.

                  Re: Computer Processor running Hot

Yeah, he had one in, and one out, but the one in was blowing directly on a metal guard So I'm gonna grab another, repost the one that was blowing in and keep the one directly above the heatsink blowing the air out. I'll probably go two in, one out, if not two in, two out.

On another note, newegg sent me the wrong processor. They sent me the 1090T which is 3.2GHz, when I paid for the 1100T which is the 3.3GHz. Getting ready to call and complain to see what would be the best remedy. I won't be able to tell a difference between the two, but if they aren't going to make it worth my while to keep it, then I'll make them send out another one.

Good luck with the processor. That's what I was eyeing originally before I decided to give Intel a try.

Yeah, I'm going to hold onto the 1090T. Newegg is giving me an extra $15 gift card and crediting the price difference between the two, in addition to the $15 initial gift card. So all in all, $149 shipped for a 3.2GHz Hex-Core processor, not a bad deal at all.

OH, and a 10% off a future purchase, which will in the end be my videocard.

Hands down best self-contained water cooling system you can buy. It dropped my i7-950 to subzero.

I've never been into the water cooling niche. How difficult is it to set up, and what kind of maintenance is there? It may be something I end up doing. My x6 though is just idling around 39-40C. Not bad at all. I haven't had it stressed yet or under any sort of load, so we'll see what it does on Prime 95.

That one seems like less maintenance since it's self contained (instead of having to hook up tubes and run them to something outside the system.

Zero maintenance, you just take off your rear case fan and mount the dual 120mm fans with the heatsink. Then clip the cooling unit onto the chip, and away you go. Everything is inside the the tubes and heatsink and you don't have to connect or fill anything.

Oh wow. So no maintenance... so 100 bucks and it'll stay cool?

How does the water stay cool? I guess I need to do some research on this thing. I have plenty of room in my case. Does the water cooling unit last for a while, or does it have to be replaced every so often, (year, two years, etc) etc?

Now I'm pretty interested in it. I'm getting ready to jump on a ATI HD 6970 if I can get the guy to work with me a little more.
