Re: Computer Processor running Hot
Re: Computer Processor running Hot
Just finished my build for BF3, ESV: Skyrim, Diablo 3, and Witcher 2 and whatever else comes my way.
Still rocking a dual core 3.0 Ghz processor, but I upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit.
So my specs right now:
Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 Ghz
Evga 560ti 1 gb ddr graphics processor
8 gbs ram
7200 rpm 1 TB harddrive.
So far Crysis and Metro 2033 demos run great maxed out, so hoping that this computer will be able to handle the newer games at pretty high settings.Comment

Boooo... My processor is overkill, lol. But futureproof I guess. Now I need a videocard. How is the 560ti treating you choadler?
Right now, I'm running Win 7 32 bit, thinking about doing a fresh install and going with 64 bit. I only have 4GB 1600 Ram right now, but plan on grabbing another 4GB stick soon.
Just need to figure out what I want to do for a videocard.Twitter - WTF_OS

I don't believe in overkill! My new build had two 580 sli...unfortunately one just died a week ago and I just sent it out back to evga but a 580...I'm rockin with one for now till I get the card back from evga
My brother is right about evga, they were very quick with the response and very helpful

Re: Computer Processor running Hot
The 560ti seems really solid so far. I have run every game that I have played at max settings without a hitch.
Just Cause 2 (looks awesome). Max everythig
Crysis looks great (actually I think I had AA at one less than the max, but everything else on max
Metro 2033 (i think AA on this one was set at one less than the max)
Dirt 2 (no Dirt 3 demo) looked great as well and ran flawlessly
Batman AA maxed and looking good.
I would do the 64 bit installation and get that extra 4 gbs of RAM, it will come in handy when BF3 comes out, I am sure.
I wouldn't say your processor is overkill, in fact, mine is probably a little bit behind. I have had it for quite some time and haven't converted over to i5 or i7 quad cores or the AMD equivalents.
560ti's appear to be solid performers and they won't set you back 400+ dollars. I am extremely pleased with how the 560 is performing for me. I ended up paying $225 after rebate from newegg and I got the factory overclocked version.Comment

Yeah, I was looking at that one today. There are some really good deals going on. I just don't know if I want to go that route, or get an ATI 6000 series. I know I won't be able to have PhysX if I go the ATI route, so that's why I'm semi-leaning towards nVidia. I don't know what I'll end up doing. I know I'll need to get something soon though. I'm selling the GTX 260 Maxcore 55 That I currently have in it, to put towards something else. After that, we'll see where I end up.
Thanks for the mini review of it though. I'm definitely not able to even get one 580 unless Goffs wants to send me one

You all think that system would work well for the x6 1090t? I'm wanting to OC to around 3.9-4.0Ghz, which looking through youtube, it's pretty easy to get those speeds very stable as long as you have a decent cooler. And for $50 after rebate, doesn't look like a bad option.Twitter - WTF_OS

I always go Nvidia so I can't really comment about how ATI does. It really depends on the game as to which card performs better it seems. I am more familiar with Nvidia so I just stick with those.Yeah, I was looking at that one today. There are some really good deals going on. As far as Physx is concerned, I turned that on with the 560ti on Batman AA GOTY and I really couldn't tell a difference between playing the game with it and without it. (BTW, I can't wait for Batman: Arkham City on the PC, Batman AA was just a sick sick game).
Personally, if you upgrade to 64 bit and upgrade your ram and pick up a 560 ti equivalent or nvidia 570, you should be good. Maybe I will be wrong when we see battlefield's and Elder Scrolls specs, but I highly doubt they will be that extreme that you won't be able to run at near max settings.Comment

I have personally never used water cooling. I never really overclocked too much, although I think I want to try to overclock my e8400 a little, maybe get it to 3.2 or 3.4 ghz.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835181015

I think it might be overkill in the idea that many games aren't programmed to utilize six cores, but his processor I think is supposed to drop down to 3 cores and overclock themselves (turbo boost) when that is the case with gaming.Comment

Re: Computer Processor running Hot
Yeah, I agree, but I think if you look at the cpu charts, I believe his processor still falls below the performance level of the i7's. Since games that are out now are already recommending i7's, I don't think he should be worried that he over did it on the purchase of that processor.Comment

Oh yeah, plus, if he gets into any heavy multi tasking or video editing those extra cores should come in handy.Yeah, I agree, but I think if you look at the cpu charts, I believe his processor still falls below the performance level of the i7's. I've got my eyes on a Core i5 2500k processor for my new computer build which I think places right around what WTF has.Comment

I was looking at upgrading to that as well. It seems like it performs well in comparison to the i7's and is much less costly.Comment
