One of the best movies I've ever seen. I rewatched the first 7 the last two weeks or so before I finally went and saw it. I hadn't read the books so I had no idea what was going to happen. I think it made it that much sweeter. I read the first 3 books and now I really want to read the rest. Or at least the Deathly Hallows.

You definitely should. I really liked the first 3 books, but books 4-6 take the series to a whole new level.

eta - book 7 is good too, but I think it's a tier below those other 3.

My favorite book is probably the 4th one.

The first three are good, but the last four are great.

I'll usually read them occasionally. I don't even like to read and I still love them. I remember the basic tale behind the entire story, but there's always something you forgot about when you re read the books.

I plan on re-reading them (maybe starting at 3, the first two are just a tad too childish for me) very soon...especially since I'm just now starting Deathly Hallows Part 1 after completing my collection of DVDs and rewatching them. I've watched the first six in the past five days, so I think I might re-read the books after I finish the movies.

              I think my "rankings" go:

              Books - 4, 5, 6, 7, 3, 2, 1
              Movies - 5, 4, 6, 7b, 7a, 3, 2, 1

              I think.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

Yeah they definitely took on a more adult tone later on. I still enjoy the first few though just not as much.

                I'd probably go
                Books - 5, 6, 4, 7, 3, 1, 2
                Movies - 7pt1, 7pt2, 5, 4, 2, 1, 3, 6

The books is a toss up for first place. Chamber of secrets gets last place because it had the least compelling story.

I'm less sure about the movie order. I know #6 is dead last for me and #3 in behind it. I'm having a hard time remembering how I viewed the rest of them though.

Hard for me to make a rankings but I'll give it a try

                  Books: 4,5,6,7,1,3,2
                  Movies: 7pt2,4,5,6,7pt1,1,3,2

Reread the 4th-6th books a lot, haven't read the 7th or the others since the 1st time I read them I think. When I go back home from college next Friday I'll start reading the books and maybe watch the movies from the beginning since I'll have plenty of free time till Fall semester starts. Gonna see if I can take the books with me since I bought some of them, gonna have to start my own Blue ray collection tho

I'm going to have to invest in a blu ray player, if I don't get another PS3 or get mine working. I have 1-6 on Blu Ray, lol.

                    Books- 4, 7, 5,6, 3,1, 2

I'm sure on my book order, just not second place. You could swap either two for one another. I like them both equally,

I can't even attempt the movies. I almost want to put #1 up there, just because they did a great job of showing off Diagon Alley and making it really seem like Harry's first visit there. I feel like, as the books go on, the movies don't do a good enough job showing off the castle and the magical world. I know there's a lot to focus on, but I'd almost rather the movies be an extra hour long and get everything in there.

Yeah the 1st 4 books on my list are basically interchangeable I feel.

Movies I guess it depends on what you're looking for, I feel the 1st movie did do a great job at showing off the various places. It's one of my favorite since it was the 1st movie and got me into the series, but with movies got more e p i c as they went on so naturally I was more into those movies.

                        4, 7, 1, 3, 5, 6

Although 6 was a great book and I actually shed a tear when Dumbeldore died.

I agree with all of this. The first movie was really kind of magical the way it introduced you to the HP universe (or for those of us who had already read it, recreated it visually). Plus both of the first 2 movies seemed like they stayed really true to the books and caught almost everything.

Movies #3 and on were always lacking though. Just to kind of illustrate this. Harry Potter books 1 and 2 were both under 340 pages and both about 2 1/2 hours long.

Book #3 was more about 100 pages longer than #2, yet the 3rd movie was 20 minutes shorter.

By book #4 the series was entering 700 page territory for each book yet none of the movies from #4-#8 ever even reached the same runtime as the 2nd movie. So basically Books 4-7 were twice as long as the first 2 books, but that was never reflected in their corresponding movies.

I thought 3 was better than both 1 and 2 for the films. 1 and 2, while initially cool to see the universe come to life, have some pacing issues.

Goblet of Fire is my favorite as well. I can't wait for the e-books this fall...I'll be finishing the series I'm in, go and re-read Potter again, and then transition to another.

Here are my rankings, I have read each book at least 4 times (some I've read 5-7 times). I have also seen movies 1-4 at least 5 times each, I've seen 5 3-5 times, I've seen 6 2-3 times, and I've seen 7 part 1 and 2 once.

                                Books: 1,5,4,3,7,2,6
                                Movies: 1,2,4,3,5,6,7(2), 7(1)

These are so hard to rank, I've just love all of the books and movies so much! I think I'm going to read one of the books right now.
