There is no need for it honestly. If I want a movie that bad Ill stream via vudu or rebox or whatever the case may be
How much does vudu cost per rental?

I don't think there is an option to do that. As long as my internet connection isn't acting wonky (which is more about my cable service than Netflix), I have no issues skipping anywhere in the film and it doing so quickly. Otherwise, if you're just looking for 100% guaranteed uninterrupted viewing, I don't think it's possible since it does seem that Netflix streams the content as you're watching.

If it weren't for the DVD service, I would have missed out on a handful of great HBO series.

The streaming library HAS to get better to be worth $8.99. 90% of it is just garbage and 5% I've already watched.

netflix doesn't own the pipes or the content, so they're at the mercy of the studios and ISP's. I'll be surprised if it's even a big streaming player in a few years as more studios go the HBO Go route and Amazon/google grow their own services.

They lost access to the movies Starz had licensed, and may lose both disney and showtime content too. So the price goes up while the quality of the streaming selection goes down...sounds great.

Ture it does need to get better i totally agree

My kids like to watch certain shows though and I like some of the cartoons anyway myself

CMH... different for whatever movie but its premium for HD streams for movie rentals

Im switching to streaming only & would be willing to pay a little more if they could obtain a little more up to date movies. I think they just added Iron Man 2 which was released like 4 years ago... ok im exaggerating but you get the idea.

I'm switching to only streaming. I can visit Redbox 8 times in a month and pay the same as the DVD service from Netflix. There aren't 8 movies I want to watch a month on DVD.

Good point. I've got a Blockbuster machine right down the street, and a RedBox or DVD Express in the opposite direction. So I'm pretty set on relatively new, physical DVD's.

I've gotten one DVD out with the plan I have (1 DVD, unlimited streaming). Never finished it and it's been months.

Yeah, think I'll go streaming only.

Sucks that they're going to lose content due to studios and whatnot claiming rights. Sounds like this is going to suck in the future compared to what it was as more content is lost or exclusive only to a certain service.

They better make more content availible. Xfinity TV blows Netflix completely out the water with content. To bad you need cable and pay the price of cable to reap the benfits.

Netflix IMO was supposed to be the alternative to cable when I first got it but that was because I was able to get new released dvds whenever. Without the dvd package, I might as well watch Hulu.

I also have a Blockbuster Kiosk in a Duane Reade near where I work, but it doesn't have a lot of the foreign films and independent films I have on my DVD queue with Netflix.

Now that I think about it, the price hike isn't all that bad. I remember when I first started Netflix it was close to 20 bucks for 3 dvds at a time and that was before streaming came into picture. They lowered the price to attract more customers and just like with all good things, they have to come to an end sometime.

iron man 2 is a big title for them though. A lot of their newer movies were actually through the Starz deal, which has hit a contract stipulation pulling those movies off. When Netflix says they'll go out and compete with HBO and Showtime for rights to new movies, Viacom threatens to pull their content off when the contract expires. They have the subscriber base, but lack the deep pockets of google or amazon, who will throw money around for exclusives or rights to new movies people actually want to see.

Netflix isn't long for this world. They should have been rushing to make original content earlier, but a little too late now.

Maybe Zuckerburg (or who ever runs FB now) could buy Netflix and merge it with Facebook at least we'll get alot of newer movies

I disagree completely. Netflix still offers the highest quality online rental service in the country. They have the greatest subscriber base. And despite limitations on streaming services (which they dominate other subscription services in terms of content) they still have the largest library of movies to offer customers.

Netflix is not going anywhere anytime soon. I argue they are in perfect position and exactly where they want to be. People can argue that they are hampered by the studios but everyone faces the same challenges.

Netflix has long fought this belief that they get new releases late and don't offer enough streaming options but their membership continues to grow rapidly and they aren't even available across the globe.
