    Re: Official Rock music thread

Some big reunions announced today in the pop-punk/emo/rock world:

Midtown has reunited after ... A long time. Their frontman you may know from a band called Cobra Starship. Personally, I think only one of their albums was really good so I'm not too crazed over this though apparently they're beloved.

The big one for me is that Saosin is back!! Not just back, but back with Anthony Green (now pretty successful with Circa Survive and solo)!! It's the 10 year anniversary of the amazing "Translating the Name" EP, but hopefully they stick around for new music. Property of Zack blog (popular blog for all things pop-punk/within that scene) will have an interview with news up around 4 today.

Big day. Gonna blast some old Saosin at work now!

      Currently streaming.

Beck's latest creation is more than a mere sequel to 2002's brooding masterpiece, Sea Change. It provides a glimpse of new frontiers in letting go and moving on.

The new Tokyo Police Club album been getting a lot of play out of me this weekend. Definitely worth a listen if you like any of their previous tracks.

I'm glad you posted this. I've become a fan of Saosin recently and went to see when they might be on tour not knowing that had broken up. Hopefully they have a Dallas date.

I think they're just playing some shows together for Skate & Surf fest. Green is obviously a busy man with Circa and solo endeavor and life. The interview by Property of Zack pretty much confirmed its a one off for now with a possibility they could get together in the future. Saosin's always wishy washy, they basically disappeared after splitting with their frontman.

It was cool news and I'm sure the fest will be great but I'm not holding my breath for new material.

            Band was awesome though.

Listening to "Punk Goes 90s Vol 2" and loving it.

Highly recommended as long as you don't expect exact remake duplicates. The artists are following the general guidelines of the songs, without changing too much, but taking it up a notch to the post-hardcore or metalcore style, while maintaining the original principles.

I'm only halfway through the album and I'm already giving rave reviews lol

Had to listen to Asking Alexandria's rendition of "Closer" by NIN twice because I liked it that much.

I liked the lineup for the Punk Goes Christmas a lot more; highlights including Yellowcard, New Found Glory, Man Overboard with two or three metalcore groups. The opposite for this edition. I liked this stuff more when it was fresh. I'm a sucker for a good cover but they all follow the same formula. I feel like I can make my own covers for songs while I'm driving.

I'll check this out though. It'll be fun at least because its all 90's songs.

Well yeah, you drift toward the softer side of that genre. "Softer" might not be the right word, but more of the pop punkish type than the heavier metalcore, which I'm a sucker for (especially when it gets to the point where they sound deathcore).

Keep in mind I was a teen in the 90s so that's pretty much my golden era lol, I love hearing those tracks done in the style of music I listen to today

                      Official Rock music thread

I actually have a background mostly in the punk and post-hardcore sound, but I've settled into the pop-punk niche the past few years.

I've just heard enough of the cookie cutter Asking Alexandria bands. Not to say I don't have some A Skylit Drive on my phone, but it blends together after so much. As I'm sure my favorites would for you, being a more hardcore/heavy guy.

I'm just a bit disappointed in the lineup. I think the formula for the whole series (and idea in general) is stale again so quickly after a pretty positive return with the Punk Goes Christmas release. Pop Goes Punk 2 was the pinnacle, in my opinion.

lol Yep, I love all those Asking Alexandria knocks offs (which ironically no longer includes AA themselves since they took a bizarre turn towards 80s hair metal)

                        Casino Madrid
                        Eskimo Callboy (terrible name lol)
Capture the Crown & Crown the Empire (I get them confused all the time)
                        Madison Affair
                        Make Me Famous
etc... That's my neck of the metalcore woods right there. I can get into just about every sector of the genre overall though, whereas with deathcore & post hardcore I'm really picky.

The new Chevelle album "La Gargola" came out on the 1st and man I have to say this album is amazing, absolutely love it. I've noticed a lot on NIN elements in a few songs which are really cool. Definitely worth checking out!

This is my favorite song on the album but there's not a song on it I don't like.

Just found this guy today. Wow. This is the opening act for Black Sabbath, who I'll be seeing this week.
