Hi all, I'm a bit behind the time when it comes to all this new tech stuff. I only recently upgraded my cell phone from a iphone 3G to a 4S. Since i got the new phone I've been watching a lot of HBO Go and Netflix on it, however I want something portable with a bit bigger screen. I don't want an iPad, I just think it's to expensive for my needs.

So my question here is Will I be able to use the HBO Go and Netflix apps on the Kindle Fire?

There is a netflix app for the kindle fire, but i'm not sure about hbo go. I did a quick search of the app store and didn't see anything listed though.

Don't know which Kindle my girlfriend has, but I'm about to "take" it from her. She never uses it and she got it as a gift last year. I'm hoping to finish reading the Game of Thrones series and read up on some Halo books (I read the first 3 way back in middle school but I'm watching the Halo movie right now and it's making me miss reading them)... Perhaps I'll even try the Art of War. I heard that book is good.

I just wish there was more time in the day for me to read!

I just won one of these at work. I'm giving it to my wife for Christmas. Is there anything I should do before I give it to her? Do I need to sync it with my account or download updates ect?

Been thinking about getting a tablet and hadn't really considered a Kindle Fire. Any unbiased opinions on the Fire HD 8.9 vs. Tab 2 10.1?

As an Amazon junkie and Kindle fan (8.9 HD, Paperwhite, Kindle Keyboard...sold my old Fire on eBay) I love it, the store finally offers a lot of the app versions of board games I love and they have the basics (Netflix, HBOGo, etc) and they work fine. But I told my son that he should save for a Google Nexus after we saw a coworker running a SNES emulator and Mario World on a business trip.

I suppose I could jailbreak my Kindle (or whatever the cool kids call it) but I won't. I love what I have, but he just has to download the Amazon AppStore and he'll have all my stuff anyway.

Not sure I like it or not. It's really annoying not having half of the apps available on the Google Play store. Don't get why they block some apps.
