Is it possible to have two PDFs open and swap between them?

Sure, in that you would have to press the home button to the flip to the other. It doesn't have both open on screen at the same time though, at least I haven't figured out how to do it if it does. It does save the position they are in though when you switch from one to another.

Thinking about getting one for myself... how comfortable is reading for extended amounts of time on the Fire? I was messing around with the demo units at Target the other day and the e-Ink versions of the Kindle just seem easier on the eyes than the display of the Fire.

I have the brightness turned down to it's lowest possible setting and it's plenty comfortable me. No eye strain whatsoever for me.

Same here. I think the brightness is pretty intense. Anything higher than the lowest setting feels like I'm staring into an eclipse.

Re: Amazon Kindle Fire (Amazon Tablet)

Just received my Fire and am wondering what are the "essential" apps? I'd like to buy and read some comics, so how is the default app for that? I'll also do a lot of regular book reading, as well as PDFs. Feel free to list any and all suggestions, free or paid (under $10 please), and I'll try them out.

                Some questions:

                1) If I subscribe to a new newspaper, will it download daily to my Fire and Kindle 3G? Both are under the same account.

                2) How do you hide/delete apps from the Cloud? I downloaded the Wall Street Journal app, it looked like I'd have to pay for a second subscription, deleted it off the device, yet it's still there looking at me.

                3) Is there any way to sort that default spinner wheel thing? And can you make folders or collections in the book heading (on the 3G I have some listed as "A Song of Ice and Fire", "The Dark Tower", etc. can I do that on the Fire?).

                Thanks!

Re: Amazon Kindle Fire (Amazon Tablet)

                  1. I think you can select where a subscription or purchase is delivered to (individual devices or cloud).

                  2. Only way I know of is to go on amazon.com, my account and under digital content is "your apps and devices" and you can delete any apps purchased (including free apps). Any app you paid money for you will have to repurchase if you want to use it again, so don't delete those. It would be nice if you could hide apps from the cloud.

                  3. The carousel is just a list of the most recently used/added content, so no way to sort it but you can remove items by long pressing and selecting remove from carousel. I don't think you can organize books like that, but I haven't tried.

As for PDFs, ezPDF is good, not sure how much it is though since I got it free (it was the amazon app of the day a while back).

I tried ComiCat but discovered for the first time today after weeks of use that it doesn't work without a WiFi connection. New to me since I've been on the train using it. Not sure when that happened.

Amazon Prime just made some additions to its streaming content.

Amazon on Wednesday teamed up with Viacom to expand its Amazon Prime service with streaming access to TV Shows from MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, TV Land, Spike, VH1, BET, CMT, and Logo.

Is there anyway to get Prime on an Android phone?

Amazon still needs a major difference maker. Some kind of content that would separate it from Netflix. The new additions are simply only to catch up because those shows were already on Netflix.

I know it won't ever happen because HBO has Go (which I find silly anyway because it should be available to non-cable subscription customers) but if Amazon could grab HBO GO content it would win this war.

The new Amazon content will be available on more than 300 devices, including the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet.
Would be nice if 2 of the 300 devices were the PS3 and 360.

General concensus is, the Kindle Fire is a good piece of equipment? Is it a "worthy" internet device, for my wife?

She basically surfs facebook, or looks up recipes. It's either this or a netbook.

                              Thoughts?

Imo, yes it's a worthy purchase. I haven't regretted mine especially since I rooted it.

If facebook is what she wants, there's the app for that. There are a lot of free recipe apps as well. The stock browser isn't bad at all. I really really love my Kindle.
