Just played with one of these in Target today. The screen and UI look great, but the responsiveness to the touch is pretty sketchy (with the demo unit). I still think it's pretty good for what you're paying.

Re: Amazon Kindle Fire (Amazon Tablet)

Had a chance to try out both the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet this weekend. In my opinion, the Nook Tablet was noticeably faster when browsing the web. Angry Birds loaded quicker on the Nook as well. Being able to add another 32gb of space is also a nice selling point. However, if you are an Amazon Prime member, the Kindle Fire would be a solid choice.

Edit: Just found out the Nook has been rooted as of this morning.

^ yes but the bootloader is still locked, and might stay that way. So that means custom mods might be a no-no.

Re: Amazon Kindle Fire (Amazon Tablet)

After a few days with it I thought my wife would have some complaints but says she still couldn't be happier. Her mom has asked about inheriting her older Kindle from her.

Meanwhile mom bought a $60 Android Tablet from Big Lots. Wtf. Looks more and more like both of our moms may be getting a Kindle Fire for Christmas.

I'm sure at some point I'll need to sideload a couple of apps for her, but she's got her Kindle Library, Prime Streaming, Flixster Ultraviolet streaming and Netflix. She's happy and it's far exceeded her expectations.

This thing is a license for Amazon to print money IMO.

I went ahead n rooted my fire. Best decision ever! Not only is my fire synched to my gmail account but I also was able to install the Dolphin browser, which is unbelievably faster than the amazon stock browser.

For those thinking about doing it, I highly recommend it! I also unrooted after I installed the google apps n marketplace so I can stream amazon.

I also got rid of the boring bookshelf interface the fire had. :P

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want to piss off everyone who bought this already by lowering the price so soon after release.

Still have mine as well, also have the nook tab still, so after a week with both I know I jumped the gun, but fire has had almost all my time, granted the nook is a sweet device still, I think the fire will continue to burn in my hands, thinking about give the nook tab to my brow for Christmas..

                          5GB

Not alot, but another advantage of rooting because I'm able to install Google Music and just stream my music on my Google Cloud. I also use Google+ for my pictures so I don't use up my Amazon cloud space on things like that.

All apps are downloaded to your local hard drive.

I'm thinking about ordering again. The law of common sense is taking over. I can get my wife and I a Fire for $100 less than an iPad. I can store most of my music on the cloud and if need be, I can buy more storage. WIN.
