    Re: The Audiophile Thread

Apologies ahead of time but I've been so lost in reviews and in this thread.

I'm looking for a pair of noise canceling over the ear headphones. I'd like to be around $200-$350. I currently use Grado sr80e headphones but they were basically my first pair of headphones. Looking for a significant upgrade.

I travel a lot so noise canceling is a big thing for me. I will be primarily using them to listen to alternative music and podcasts. Won't be using them for gaming much.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I own the Bose Quiet Comfort 20i and they are amazing. They are ear buds so they are much more comfortable and mobile. There are no batteries involved so you just have to plug them into your computer or use a cell phone charger. When the battery dies they become normal ear buds.

Its crazy how much noise it cancels. I go on plane trips and it takes out plane noise easily. My buddy has the classic over ear bose headphones and they are almost equal as far blocking sound.

Damn, $300 for buds! I'm such a novice when it comes to this industry.

How's the sound quality with them? Can buds achieve the same type of quality as over the ear?

Yeah its a lot, but comparing them to the other bose headphones, they are comparable in sound and voice reduction so the amount was worth it to have the comfort, mobility and no batteries. I use them daily and they sound great. The bass is surprisingly good, especially in noise cancelling mode. The build quality is also very good, which it should be at that price.

Ignorant question but do all noise canceling headphones require batteries? Even Beats?

Yes they do if they are true noise cancelling . Not all beats need batteries but they aren't noise cancelling but rather noise reducing headphones.

I didn't answer the last part of question on the other thread. Over ear will usually have better sound since it will have a bigger speaker. So if your looking for hard hitting bass, the earbuds will be disappointing.

What will you be using the headphones for?

I will use them everyday listening to music while I work and on the airplane as I fly frequently.

Anybody have the Bose QuietComfort 25 or 15? Seems like those are the ones that might fit my needs

                  Re: The Audiophile Thread

I'm about to sound a little like the grinch. My girlfriend got me a record player for Christmas. I had been eyeing getting one and have a couple vinyl records I could never play.

                  http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000UV...=AC_SX200_QL40

Need help figuring out if this can do what I need it to. It has terminals for two speakers on the back. I want to play it though my Yamaha RX-V673 receiver on my home theater. Will I be able to run speaker wires from the turntable to the receiver? It has a 3.5mm out, but I might as well just hook my mp3 player up. I know the turntable can't adequately power any speakers I have either. Thanks for any tips!

No, run your speakers right from it. Ignore the ratings,it'll play.
Of course, it is underpowered and has a bad cartridge, and will sound distorted, and will damage your records over time.

Why not go 3.5mm out to the aux input on your AV receiver to play it through your sound system?

I'm just assuming that the quality would not be as good. Big emphasis on assuming.

I got an Audio-Technica turntable and I'm loving it. Right now I'm just playing it through the JBL soundbar I use for my television but I'll probably buy some dedicated speakers for it soon.

I'm thinking about purchasing some headphones. I haven't bought a pair in almost ten years. I tried on some Beats at Best Buy and loved the sound compared to my current headphones. I've heard Beats are not even that good compared to some at a comparable price range. I like to listen to rock, classic and newer as well as the occasional newer song with some good bass. What do you suggest? Hopefully around the $100 price range, maybe $150 if it's worth it.

EDIT: Can anyone suggest Wireless Headphones as well? I might look into that and see if I can find something with good quality for around the same price range.

                              Re: The Audiophile Thread

I'm making some HT upgrades now that we're moving (and I'll be moving all my bedroom equipment to the new living room), but I have a dilemma.

Dilemma first... my new center channel won't fit in the middle shelf on the cabinet. It can only fit on the bottom (not enough to angle it as well). The TV is on the top. I can't mount the TV for two reasons: 1) mom against it), 2) floorstanding front speakers would cut off side angle for love seat on other wall if brought farther back. The only true thing I can do is mount the center channel above the TV, but even I agree that is an eyesore.

Anyway, here's what I'm going from:

                              Center: Polk TSi CS10
                              Fronts: Klipsch KF-28 Icon
                              Subwoofer: BIC Acoustech PL-200

                              Here's what I'm going to:

                              Center: Klipsch RC-62 II Reference
                              Fronts: Klipsch RF-82 II Reference
                              Subwoofer: SVS PC13-Ultra

Although my bedroom was adequate for them, I have to think about whether or not I can get surrounds in my space. I've already made this project enough of a hassle for my mom haha.

Sorry for if this has already been asked before but 30 some odd pages is a lot to read through. Right now I have a Philips HTL2160 that I got for christmas and the sound isn't great at all. What would any of you recommend for a small living room in a 2 bedroom apartment? Thanks and sorry again for if this has already been asked.
