The documentary is pretty one-sided, but yeah, like I said, just facepalmed through the whole thing. You have to remember that's a much smaller population area than where you work. The dynamics in that sheriff's office aren't really an uncommon thing in rural areas. Not saying all of them are bumbling idiots and/or corrupt. Just that you have "lifers" with relatively little turnover, and you have to be in certain circles to get hired. A lot easier for something like this to happen.

Also, Kratz, the prosecutor in the case, now practices criminal defense in the city across the bridge in Wisconsin from my city. Wonder if I'll ever run into him. Can't imagine he's having the best time of his life right now with the wrath of the Internet. Doubt he's showing his face in public outside of work much.

Went through Wentworth season 3 in no time. Great series.

After watching Making A Murderer I read about another documentary called Paradise Lost (about the West Memphis Three). We watched it holy hell that was on another level... It was crazy for completely different reasons than Making a Murder, but still somewhat similar. I would recommend it to anyone that enjoyed MaM.

Note: It's on HBOGo, not NetFlix. I thought that there was a Documentary thread here, but my searches came up with nothing.

I read the Wikipedia on that case it was similar and compelling as well. Definitely have to watch those docs as well.

It's very similar in that you have a possible coerced confession from a an individual with a 70 IQ who implicates one or more individuals and then recants his testimony.

It's actually a series of documentary films. Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills (1996), Paradise Lost 2: Revelations (2001), and Paradise Lost 3 Purgatory (2012) look at the ongoing status of the West Memphis Three. I liked it so much I watched West Of Memphis (2012), a documentary apart from the HBO trilogy, which adds enough to avoid the "overkill" label. It received a 95% on RottenTomatoes based on a healthy sampling of 111 reviews.

My brother recommended it when I discussed The Making Of A Murderer with him, which he had not seen.

The HBO trilogy is available free for Amazon Prime members.

We watched all three (which are between two and two and a half hours long) over two nights. We plan on watching West of Memphis as well as the movie called Devil's Knot sometime in the near future.

Yeah, the reviews on Devil's Knot are unspectacular enough for me to stay away.

I can certainly see where it has the potential to not be very good. After watching the documentaries I don't really expect it to be very informative. However, I like a lot of the cast (Colin Firth, Reese Witherspoon, Amy Ryan, Stephen Moyer and Mireille Enos) and I want to see their portrayals of the people involved in this story. I particularly want to see Kevin Durand as John Mark Byers because that guy is nuts.

Re: What's good to watch on Netflix

Check out a show not many know about called The Red Road. Stars Martin Henderson as a local police officer trying to keep his family together and Jason Momoa as a local criminal as part of the Ramapough Mountain People - a
NJ state recognized tribe that lives in the mountains.

Focal point of the show is the conflict between these two men, and the disconnect between the locals and the mountain tribe that lives in the mountains.

Season 1 is only 6 episodes, I saw it on Netflix last year. Season 2 aired early this year and if it isn't on Netflix yet it should be soon. I like that there's only 6 episodes per season because it makes each scene very important, there is no room for any fluff. Entertaining show, I liked it.

I saw on Reddit where some poor guy accidentally watched Paradise Lost 2 Revelations while he was high.... I can only imagine the emotions that he went through seeing Byers in that one.

Probably been mentioned in here already, but Master of None is pretty funny. I'm 6 or 7 episodes in and it's pretty funny. Aziz Ansari stars, not sure if he has any part in the writing. I'd recommend it.

Yes, he had a hand in writing almost all of the Season 1 episodes.

The Black Mirror Christmas special, starring American star Jon Hamm, is as entertaining as it is disturbing. Finally on Netflix after debuting in Britain a year ago.

Check out Black Mirror's season 2 "White Bear" also.

Bill Burr's latest stand up special. I didn't like the sacreligious stuff, but the rest was great. His ending had me in stitches. I especially loves when he does the woman voice.
