Don't know about anime but you're clearly not a big fan. I don't know if it's the timeline angle (the 5 1/2 years of airtime only covered EXACTLY TWO years) that's swaying your perception of the advancement of the storyline but to each his own.

Trivia about the season 2 finale you referenced:

I’m wondering how much is watching it after the fact. I remember liking Game of Thrones but it was much more fun seeing people speculate and how excited the people who read the books were to see the stuff they’d been waiting to see on screen. I would probably feel very differently about it if I had just started it randomly now. I remember the hype train behind this show, maybe I just missed out. Its a really nice looking show if nothing else.

I think we all have one or two of the "great shows" that we just didn't take to. For me it was The Wire (I could only get through two seasons of it before giving up).

Sometimes the general setting and style of the show can have a big effect. I really love the southwest, which features prominently in Breaking Bad.

Heck, I'm gonna re-up on HBO and try to rewatch The Wire. It's always annoyed me that I didn't like it. I also never saw Six Feet Under, but darned if it doesn't look boring. They're not mafiosi, cops/detectives, cowboys, supernatural, gangsters...nothing? Oof, I dunno.

Man I'm with you on The Wire. I've started it three times and can't get past s01. I just can't get into it. I want to so bad because of all the acclaim it's received. But I just can't seem to be entertained by it. [emoji1745]

I've been wanting to watch Six Feet Under just because it always pops up in best finale conversations, I love a show with a good ending. Same reason I want to eventually get into The Shield.

The Wire is far and away my favorite show ever but it's also one that wouldn't surprise me if people weren't into it. It starts kinda slow, then takes a little bit to tie everything in, and then completely switches everything up. It's like 5 books in a series.

BB is just very uneven to me. There's some really great moments where it's like man this is elite TV, the way they let the shots tell the story is really impressive, and then I've gotta listen to Skyler talk to Ted. The Wire is big on shades of grey. Avon is a kingpin, but you see what it means to be good in his world in the way he treats his people. It's like Tony Soprano and the way he loves his kids. This dude Walt is screaming at former colleagues, berating his partner, he's terrible to everyone...I want Jesse to shoot him in his face and take over so bad lol.

I haven't even tried to watch it because, for me, no matter how good a show may be in terms of plot, characters, writing..., if I'm not drawn to the core premise, then I know that it isn't for me. the same thing for Breaking Bad and a lot of other shows that people here love.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Oh crap, yeah; her singing Happy Birthday to him was one of the most godawful things of all time. You might not be that far yet, but it's not exactly a spoiler, LOL.

My issue with The Wire when I tried to watch it some years back was that, as I recall, some people felt the show was somehow groundbreaking in presenting how a network of corruption/malaise can permeate a whole system/society. Yet, to the extent anyone felt the show was groundbreaking in that way, I have a hard time believing that could be so. I think people have always known that. As far as it being portrayed, I think there were lots of gritty 70s movies presenting that sort of idea, though I haven't given too much thought to it. Maybe this show presented it in a more comprehensive and masterful way, I don't know.

First 2 episodes start slow but then picks up after the 3rd one, pretty much like most great HBO shows.

It sure did put it in a masterful way, even Harvard has a course about the show. I believe you stopped at the 2nd season? 3 and 4 are the seasons that propelled it to the GOAT for me.

When the show got to the theme of the kids of Baltimore and the school system.....man. Just goosebumps thinking about.

There’s a reason a show that came out 19 years ago that OS still has an active thread talking about it.

It’s not for everyone, half the people think it’s the greatest show of all time and the other half think it’s boring.

And yet there's no active Sopranos thread on here? Real lack of standards our generation.

I'm pretty sure the only archived Sopranos thread that has "time-survived" OS is the season 6 one that was the final season. But as I recall in past season discussions there were a significant amount of grumblings about the show's decline as early as season 2 which was kind of ridiculous. It never had enough super fans (like me) to carry a thread beyond it's original run.

First time I read your post I went, "What!" But then thought about it and remembered my wife and I started and restarted Breaking Bad 3 times before it caught for us. When I recommended the show to family, I had to add the caveat of giving it some time.

I think I am the only one in my family that watched The Wire and Six Feet Under. All three shows gained momentum as I became involved in the overarching plot. Each of the three, if you can weather the slow start, you're in for an entertaining experience.

BTW, Mad Men would be that show for me that didn't take. Watched it for a few seasons but eventually just gave up on it.

We loved Six Feet Under and quite possibly it had one of the great series finales I have ever seen. Such a dark yet brilliant show.

                              Loved it.

I'm liking The Wire this time around. Now that I think about it, it's possible I just never bothered to start Season 3 a few years back instead of making a conscious decision to stop watching. I think I'll make it all the way through this time.

I need to watch Twin Peaks as well. The Sopranos is the Jesus of television, but Twin Peaks may have been the John the Baptist.
