Bulk of that price would be for the graphics card, because you can get a 450 watt power supply for $50.Comment

It's not that hard. Going through Black Friday deals will definitely help price wise. I think a i5 intel processor is an ideal starting point.Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
I decided to finally buy a new PC, for some gaming. I have built before, but I it doesn't seem like you can save as much as you used to.
I found this at newegg on sale last week for $500,

I think all I'll want to add to that is a video card upgrade. I am looking at the Radeon 7770 cards at newegg that come bundled with a few games (Far Cry 3, MOH and Nexiuz).Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
My new E2742 monitor came in today. I also have a W2242TQ. The first one does 1080p, the second one only 1050p. I have a 7870 Ghz edition card.
I cannot figure out why 1080p monitor is not displaying the resolution when extending the desktop. I am using HDMI to hook it up. If I duplicate the displays I can get a washed out resolution. I tried Eyefinity, but the monitor aren't the same resolution so it's stretched out on the bigger one.
Edit. It displays full screen with DVI, but not HDMI.Last edited by SuperBowlNachos; 11-23-2012, 05:24 PM.Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
I've been without a PC for the last few months (gave the one I built in 2008 to my gf), but the time has come. Here's what I'm rolling with (will pull the trigger next month).
Antec P183 V3
Asus HCP 750W
i5 3570K
DDR3 16GB @ 1600
Gigabyte GA-Z77X
MSI Lightning 7970
~$1,200. About the same price as my 2008 rig.

That card is slightly better than a integrated GPU and isn't ideal for gaming. What's your budget 23?Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
My PC is a little dated so looking to upgrade. Will be re-using the case, DVD drive, network card, etc from my current build.
This is what I have now:
1 x CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready
1 x Western Digital WD Blue WD10EALS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA
1 x GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
1 x Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
1 x SAPPHIRE TOXIC Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card
1 x G.SKILL HK 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
My questions are:
- Will my current power supply work with the latest components?
- Is a SSD worth the upgrade from SATA in terms of gaming performance?
- Any recommendations for new motherboard, CPU, Graphics Card? Hoping to stay within a $400-$500 budget.
- Any great deals today or tomorrow worth looking into?Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
1. Newegg still sales that power supply and it's one of the most popular based on the number of reviews, I see no reason why it wouldn't work. 650W should be enough power unless you go with 2 video cards.
2. In terms of gaming performance I am not sure there is a massive difference in anything other than fast load times. SSDs are getting pretty freaking cheap. Being able to boot up in 10-15 seconds and being able to reboot in about 5 makes it well worth it. If you need a ton of space you can always keep your other hard drive in there for storage.
3. What case do you currently have. I didn't look at your current card, but make sure there is enough room for everything.
4. Newegg has tons of deals going on right now. I would imagine they'll have better ones tomorrow. You can get the i5-3570K ivy bridge for $199 right now.Comment
