Did you get them from Newegg? I think they offer installation support. The times I have called for whatever reason they have been good (and American).

Yes and I did paperclip test and my PSU came on if that means anything.

Yep. Even if it's just a piece that needs to be sent pack, you'll get it figured out. Sure is frustrating though.

Regardless, just take this as a learning situation. I've found that when working with (or building) my PCs, user error has led me to not make the same error twice.

That being said, I still have a lot of errors left to make.

LOL. That's a tad bit impossible but please do share techniques to keep dust out. I usually clean my PC's innards every end of the month, two months if I'm feeling lazy.

Here's what I did with my PC:

Front of case, I actually was going to get a different case, but I did like the look of this one and it was on sale really cheap so I jumped. It's not bad, but it could have been better laid out in the front for my purposes:

Most of the air comes in the front of the system, through one 120mm and one 140mm fan. These are filtered with this air conditioner filter media: http://www.amazon.com/Duck-1285234-2...=operasport-20 placed into the front of the case:

The rear of my case has had as much metal removed as I could, removing PCI covers, the PCI posts, fan grill, etc so that these fans blowing in won't create positive static pressure making fans work 100% efficiently. The CPU heat sink blows directly out the back of the case, through where the rear fan and grill were.

Inside of the case has stayed VERY clean, if I remember to clean the filters. The second (screen) filter on the lower front fan, the only time it has ever had any dust on it was when I neglected to clean the filters for almost 3 months and it was able to pull dust through the filter (which is just stupid me, it literally takes 5 minutes to clean those filters). I also have a top and bottom fan running at minimum speeds to keep from getting dead spots in the air flow, they are both filtered with the same material.

This is the bottom of my case (where the HDD cage should be, but was removed to avoid airflow obstructions), there's a bit of dust there now because of my filter issue, but this is nearly 9 months of fairly heavy use.

Here is my SSD mounted with velcro underneath the optical bay, and if you look back you'll see my mechanical HDD installed below my optical drive since my HDD cage is gone.

Thanks guys but man I just wish one of you guys were around here to help. Lol. It's really annoying me that I can't seem to figure out what's wrong. I'm about to call newegg and just exchange everything.

Everyone I keep talking to here says it could be that the power supply isn't big enough however they also say that it should as well????

Yeah most of it but I did have a question.

1. I only got 4 screws in Motherboard however these other things say there's like 6-7 screws for motherboard. Could that be a problem?

2. I never received any of those copper stand offs, would that have any effect at all. From who I talked to these things shouldn't matter but I wanted to be sure.

Wait a minute.....you using a motherboard with no stand offs ? No stand offs = you short out your board. That is probably why it keeps cutting off.

Well damn, yeah no standoffs came with my stuff. So what I'll do is head by bestbuy tomorrow and pick some up and try them. If it still doesn't work than I guess it's the motherboard right? Also wjat size screws should I use for the motherboard to be sure.

Amount of screws doesn't matter functionally, but you should use every mounting point for stability so you don't flex your motherboard.

The standoffs are built into that motherboard tray, so unfortunately that's not the issue.

That reminds me of when I built my first PC. The case came with a set of stand offs that were already secured together, so I figured I was supposed to use those to secure the motherboard.

So I only had like 4 or 5 stand offs in place and used the rest to screw them in. My PC sat like that for about two years till I saw this picture:



If you look up by the drive bays you'll see a row of screws. I just automatically assumed they were apart of the construction, and don't remember the manual mentioning anything about it.

My case actually came with a "dust filter" and though it keeps a lot of dust out, it still manages to get in. I'll try your AC filter solution one of these days along with investing in 1-2 more fans for my case.

What is the best video card?
Would it be necessary to get a dual video card?
How much memory would I need to play games?

1) Best video card is subjective. There are plenty out there that will perform admirably at a 1920x1080 resolution.
2) SLI is not necessary.
3) I'd say shoot for 8GB RAM, prices are low enough and that's a fairly sweet point between price/performance.

1. I am not knowledgeable to the best cards for gaming laptops.
2. You can't do dual cards in a laptop.
3. 4gb should be plenty. 6gb just to be safe. Anymore then 6 if just showing off. On desktops it's so cheap now a lot of people just go with 8.
