^ what he said, but I haven't gotten a strained CPU so far I don't believe. Most of the games I've played Black Ops, Arma, 2k13...games like that can be played on a fairly high setting without much of an issue.

Again I haven't overclocked either so I could be fine as is, but I'd like to be completely sure even for future games.

What are the benefits of an AMD CPU w/ W8? I didn't realize it was better than Intel.

Basically in a nutshell prior to Windows 7 was released, Intel paid Microsoft money to have Windows 7 optimized for Intel CPUs only and if the OS detected an AMD CPU, to throttle it's potential back 30%. Intel was sued of course and last year they had to pay millions of dollars for doing that BS.

Windows 8 is more of even playing field. The OS of Windows 8 uses 100% the potential of your CPU regardless if it is Intel or AMD. That is why in Windows 8 there is no difference between Intel or AMD cpu. So lets say you have a 6 or 8 CPU, which is what most AMD CPUs are nowadays, Windows 8 will make use of ALL the cores. Something that Windows 7 don't do with AMD CPUs.

Didn't know that wow the new one they sent me had someone's Windows 7 on it, I kept it like this until they get their act together.

I didn't know that either. That's some shady BS. I bet they were pissed like no other when they found out MS was taking bribe money. The corporate world is just one giant back stab fest

That it is. Its why I have no brand loyalty. I used to be all about ATI cards back in the early to mid 2000s, but after my issues I wouldn't touch them now. In another 5 years I could be back to AMD spouting how much I dislike nVidia. Though I like eVGA for their cards. I've had nothing but good experiences with them, ever.

I do prefer Intel processors, though, so that hasn't changed. I've never had any issues with them so, barring something unforseen, I'll stick with them.

Brand loyalty for PC stuff needs to go out the window until companies stop their back alley deals, which I doubt will happen.

Well, I have a great idea of what I want as far as the memory, video card and processor but I need some help in choosing a motherboard. My plan is to buy a gaming desktop in the 1500 to 2000 price range, any help will again be greatly appreciated. Also, is it a good idea to run my system thru hdmi to my tv or should I go with a monitor?

Well it really depends on the HDMI thing. Is your CPU going to be close to your tv? I know with me, my CPU is going to be in my room next to my TV so I'm just going ahead and hooking it up through HDMI to my TV for space issues. Im pretty sure it's a personal preference.

                      Yes, it will be close.

How easy is it to overlock a CPU? I just got a GTX 680 to upgrade my computer but am wondering if I should overclock the CPU along with it. I'm running an i7-920. Any thoughts?

How easy it is depends on your motherboard.

My motherboard (with UEFI BIOS) i just hit delete or whatever when the PC is starting up and click 1 or 2 buttons. Poof, overclocked.

Other motherboards (read: older motherboards mainly) are a bit more difficult, but still not the toughest thing in the world.

When/if I over lock mine how many fans do you suggest? My case has a rear fan and a area on the side to place a fan. That's it. Should I be worried?

That's not a great case for cooling, but looking at the pics there is a spot for a front fan (in front of drive cage), a fan there plus a larger exhaust in the back, plus one on the side and you might be OK.

You might think about one of the little integrated watercoolers for that case, while it wouldn't really be more efficient than an air cooler, you can hook it directly to where the rear exhaust fan goes, pushing all that heat directly out of the case rather than letting it circulate.
