Dang that’s awesome that you can fit a 4090 in that. Good luck, looking forward to the complete project

I finally managed to get a 4080, open box MSI Ventus 16Gb RTX for $999 then opened a new card with my bank to get $200 off my first $500+ purchase.

I'm sort of surprised the 4080 wasn't that much bigger than my 3080, however it does take an additional slot so it's fatter. I guess the Ventus is one of the smallest 4080's too.

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

Nice. I was tempted to start looking at 4080's, but I have temporarily convinced myself that my 3080 is way more than enough since I just play at 1440p. If I truly need to upgrade anything, it's my 10700k.

I think my plan is to just wait 12-18 months, the 50 series cards should be releasing in that window, and I will build a brand new PC when they launch. I think I can wait til then. What is really going to drive me to start a new build will be when GTA VI and Arma 4 have official PC release dates.

On a side not, I finally enabled HDR on my newest monitor. I've never used HDR before, and I am pretty sure this monitor isn't considered amazing at it, but after getting used to the less saturated look I have really become a fan of how HDR looks. Some games looks significantly better and more lifelike. Switching it off again in Red Dead 2 last night made it clear how ridiculously saturated that game is by default. I can't believe I used to think that much saturation looked fine.

Brother built a new PC a month to a month and a half ago. Everything was working good, was proud of him for finishing one. Now hes getting what I think are the symptoms of a bad graphics card. A red noise/square pattern on the screen sometimes, taskbar glitching out and windows flickering on startup.

Thankfully GPUs aren't that bad to RMA.

Is this a good laptop for basic home browsing? Will be $449 starting tomorrow. I run my PC all day along with my work PC. So heavy use. I want the portability too vs updating my desktop.

I have a 2012 B+ gaming desktop, but I haven't actually gamed on it in a few years. My laptop is a 2015 Asus that was $300. Barely runs.

Just want something that will handle normal tasks for at least the next 5-7 years. Looking at AMD due to the Intel issues

Never had good experience with HP laptops but should be ok for a basic laptop. If you aren’t hard pressed on using windows, M1 MacBook airs are being for around 600 (tax included) and those things little beast and super portable and will definitely last you 5-7 years.

I am not against a MacBook. I would want to be able to run 2 external monitors at times though and it looks like I would have to get one with the M3 chip. I'd want a 15" so I think it would be out of budget for me overall.

We needed a laptop for my son to homeschool with and got this 3 weeks ago.

Pretty happy with it so far. It was the only touch screen laptop for under $500 that I could find. It also has a numpad and a decent sized screen but isn't terribly heavy.

I pretty much have bought most major brand of budget laptops for my employees to use and overall I would trust 2 brands: Acer, Lenovo and then Asus would come 3rd.

Terrible experience with HP. Dell I don’t get much options in Asia.

I currently use Acer Predator laptops and have been great.

Just saw you can get a Acer Nitro on Amazon between 6-700 and comes with a 4050 graphics card.

I replaced my Acer Predator laptop with a Dell OLED and although the picture is great the rest of the computer is awful and I regret changing greatly.

Yeah man I’m pretty happy with my Predator. I’m not compelled to build a new pc for another year or so. Plus I been going back and forth to Manila and it’s been a beast for the games I play.

AMD said they are getting out of the high end GPU market and just focusing on the mid tier market to gain market share.

That's a fantastic idea IMO, it's much needed with the prices now

I used to build budget PCs but it's gotten too hard with GPU prices

All games ? NO. Sports games and older games, yeah. Ray tracing is very demanding, so depending on how much of said game use it, you might have to drop down to high settings.
