Is that why Spotify is becoming so big, because they're shutting down the downloading sites? I hadn't a clue. I just knew Spotify was awesome.

There's quite easy ways to get music off of YouTube. I've been wondering when they're going to go after music on there. It's a great tool to stream and share music (like the "What Are You Listening To?" thread here at OS). It would be a shame to have it removed.

Yeah, even though I use sites like grooveshark, I still tend to go straight to Youtube or my music paradise app, when I'm looking to hear a particular song

I'm sure the RIAA can set up a payment plan for them.

Youtube has deals with the record labels. If you post a video you will get a notification saying that "you posted copyrighted material, but no action is needed on your part." For a long time Warner Music Group were being bitches and wanted a ridiculous number. You couldn't post anything that WMG owned on Youtube.

People hate thieves too . I don't care what Grohl says, there is a huge difference between recording a cd or two for friends and uploading your music collection for the world to have.

Its all about the music. If its good its worth a buy. It is sad that there are very few record stores left. I miss being able to get a stack of cds and being able to try them out at kiosks. But I do support the artists I like. Whether through merchandise, cds, shows etc. I also believe that getting music to everyone who wants it should have access to it. Even if they don't pay for your cds they still pay for concert tickets and merch.

Music companies are out for their own interests first. The music industry isn't as bad as they want you to believe. Look at the porn industry. Their still the number one grossing export in the world and yet their sites, movies, would have you believe that its a dwindling industry. Not that I would know.

Re: RIAA claims Limewire owes them $72 trillion

98% of the music I listen to is music that's been made a long, long time ago anyway, so whatever.

I'll continue to do how I do.....and spend WAY more money to attend concerts, buy shirts, whatever to actually support whichever band it is. Just spent 110 bucks to attend a Rammstein show last week, and I haven't had a job in a year. Was it a stupid thing to do considering my own finances? Yeah maybe, but there, there's my support.

I don't upload my any of my collection for sharing though. **** that.

Of the 4000+ songs on my iPod I have bought every single one. I just don't believe in illegally downloading songs. I honestly don't think I've ever illegally downloaded a song before. I don't care if someone else does it but it's not for me.

I never download music, legally or illegally.

I do buy a few CDs every now and then, but I basically only listen to classic rock, for the most part, so it's not as if anything new is coming out.

I do watch a lot of songs on Youtube, though. It's free and legal!

Should have spent that money on merch and concert tickets.

If you happened to buy on all of those on iTunes, then it would only be $360 going to the artist.

Really though at least you bought CDs and other legit sources. I have friends who think downloading music for free is one of the seven deadly sins, so to make themselves feel better they pay $0.05 per song on some foreign MP3 site.............

Oh no! Lady Gaga must be starving. How can AC/DC even afford power for their amps!? I see an island without an owner! How will Lars ever afford his shark bar? And all those poor music execs in their one bedroom apartments with community bathrooms! Nooooooo!

I think there's wiggle room if you download, listen to an album or whatnot and say "hey I like this!" then go out and buy it. Think of it as an appetizer in a way. Sure technically it's stealing but if it helps people to determine if they like a product and they actually buy said product than I think it's not so bad.

Though you're right, by the letter of the law it IS stealing.
