As far as dialogue goes, this has to be one of the best Dexter episodes. Isaak/Dexter at the gay bar was really well done and it really develops Isaak as a villain compared to past Dexter baddies. Deb/Dex was emotionally charged and I totally wasn't expecting Deb to come out with it. Was it a bit uncomfortable (like Dexter's face)? Yes, but I think it's being handled well enough for it to not be disgusting - for me anyway.

Seriously, I do get why people dislike the "incest" angle, I really do, but its been very well done this season. It was rather cartoony last season when Deb was figuring it out...but it's been necessary in Debs reaction to Dexter knowing the truth and they've really handled the scenes well.
Now, if Hannah died and Dex and Deb run away to Argentina together ill be right there with you all disliking it.
Issak has been fantastic. Step below Trinity on the "compelling" side for me, but he's far and away the number two villain in this shows history for me. Lithgow as Trinity, though, just took the character to a whole different level.Comment

Trinity is still the best villain in the show's history. He was just so evil and to me was essentially The Joker to Dexter's Batman. To me Isaak is number 2 at the moment, but he could possibly make an argument for being the best villain depending on how these last 4 episodes turn out.
That also goes for this season as well. 4 is still the pinnacle of the show IMO, but if these last 4 episodes continue being as high quality as just about all of the past 8, then this just might turn out to be the best season yet.
The good thing is I'm pretty positive an ending to the season where everything is just neatly and perfectly wrapped up like Season 5 is out of the question, so really it just depends on what decisions the writer's made and up to this point they've been money (still can't believe they've gone from one extreme to the other in terms of quality).
I even like the way they've handled Deb's love for Dexter this season, and in this past episode in particular. That scene where she admits her feelings was incredible.
I just really, really hope there's no chance that Dexter suddenly decides to feel the same way, and that's what I fear with these final few episodes. We still have at least one more big swerve coming, if not more, and if you think about why Dexter has fallen in love with Hannah (she accepted Dexter as a killer), is that not what Deb has done as well? Sure her reaction was completely different and it took time for her to come around to it, but in the end she still has accepted Dexter The Killer. Plus with her already being tied to some of Dexter's kills, I'm worried that things are lining up with the last season being Dexter AND Deb on the run and in love (a parallel to Hannah and Wayne).
What I hope is they go the other way and that come the end of the season, Deb's relationship with Dexter will be beyond repair because he chose Hannah over her (but I fully expect Hannah to get killed) and the last season is her and the cops hunting Dexter down.
In any event, this season has been incredibly good. So much so that I've already watched a lot of the episodes two to three times, whereas last season it was almost getting to be a struggle to get excited for new episodes.Last edited by BlueNGold; 11-20-2012, 10:25 AM.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Re: Dexter (Season 7)
Okay episode.
One thing is for sure, Isaak is an amazing villain because whenever he's on screen with Dexter, the scenes become 10x more interesting. Very much like when Dexter was with Trinity.
The writers should seriously find a way to get Astor and Cody in a room with Dexter and Isaak. That's the only way those two children can ever be interesting to me again. Snore fest watching them on screen complaining about crap that's better served for the Disney Channel.
Isaak's reveal was obvious to me when he looked at that picture. I never got a father and son vibe because I thought that would be something everyone would know. It was also made a point that Isaak's reason for vengeance was unclear to the brotherhood and no one in the world would ever feel like avenging a child would be ridiculous.
Interesting because I just had this conversation with my boss. He also felt Isaac was his father, so I guess I'm not exactly perplexed that anyone would think that.
And yeah, the incest thing is...well, it's not incest, first of all. It's weird. It's awkward. It's not incest. But while the idea of it is uncomfortable, it is being handled better. I think Debra falling for Dexter has been done more intelligently this year with her learning who he is, trying to gain some approval (even if she doesn't realize it, she is) and recognizing that he's the only man that has ever truly cared for her or understands her.
It makes sense she'd be confused over it."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Also, I'm glad that LaGuerta went ahead and investigated everyone.
Now I can go ahead and sit comfortably as I watch her place the pieces together without them just falling on her lap.
Thank you, writers."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. That scene where Deb lets it slip was FANTASTIC acting and writing and came together very well. Anyone who's still shouting that they hate the "incest" angle is clinging to the way it was handled last season imo, because their interactions this season have been much much much better.
Not to mention, we've seen probably 50 Deb crying scenes over the shows history, and this one was w/out a doubt one of the best acted ones. I thought she absolutely nailed the character and what she was going for w/ that mixed emotions towards Dex, horror, and especially self hatred.
Yes, it was a bit awkward, but its supposed to be. I just don't get how you can hate this storyline for popping up again when imo the scene was incredibly well done
Not to mention, it did a great job further driving that wedge between Dex and Deb and shows how Dex continues to slowly slip into the "darker" side of his personality by choosing Hannah over Deb (which, for the record, doesn't mean he had to profess his love for Deb, but surely he could have shown a little sympathy and not run straight to Hannah).
And as for the whole Issak vs Trinity thing, as of this moment, its still no debate. Yes, Issak's character is fantastic, and I'll even go as far to say some of his scenes and dialogue have been captivating (a handful of episodes already are better than anything we've seen in the previous few seasons, hands down). #2 villian, I can get on board w/ that no problem. But Beantown nailed it... Trinity is Trinity, and no amount of suave will top that. I'm not saying it can't be done, and we surely haven't seen the best of what's to come. But Lithgow went way beyond that... Trinity was down right terrifying on a whole different level.
To me, Issak still comes off as a bit of a TV character. A great character, and totally badass, no doubt, but a character nonetheless. Whereas Lithgow made Trinity into something so evil, yet completely believable. I don't know what it was, but Trinity was that dark flash everyone has at times, the worst of us, unleashed to its full potential. Everything that's wrong with human nature packaged into one demented man, that is all the more scary because you know somewhere, people like that exist, and worse, they look just like you and me. As a bad guy, Issak kicks ***, but the thought of someone like Trinity is truly scary.Last edited by AllJuicedUp; 11-21-2012, 02:21 AM.Comment

Re: Dexter (Season 7)
I've stayed out of this thread this season since I do not have Showtime. How has this season been so far? Has it been better than the last 2 seasons? I'm thinking of subbing to Showtime now that the season is halfway through and catching up On Demand.Comment

And yes a thousand times over. Pretty much every one of my posts in this thread starts with something along the lines of "I can't believe how good this season has been". It's easily one of the 3 best seasons in the show's history (4 and 1 being the best two IMO).Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. Yeah this season has been great. Story has been really good and when you get a really good bad guy in the season it becomes a good season but its been great for me because of Hanna. She's the best Dexter girl ever.Comment

Re: Dexter (Season 7)
This past episode was pretty good. The incest thing was always goofy with me but they handled it with some taste at the end there and the scene with Issac at the bar was wonderful but I just can't get on board with this Hannah thing.
It's hard for me to believe that Dexter all of a sudden is acting like a lovesick teenager with her. It's too out of character. We all are laughing at Quinn acting like that with a stripper he's known for 2 weeks but the exact same thing is happening with Dexter. He barely knows her and now he thinks he's in love with her after a week because she's a serial killer who accepts him as the same? That makes no sense. He was accepted by Lumen and now Deb for being a serial killer so why didn't he go gaga back then or with Deb now if that acceptance turns him into a horn dog.
And his moral compass and code he has abided by all his life is conveniently thrown out the window and he ignores the fact that she kills for personal gain (and killed that writer for a pretty shallow reason) is glossed over and is accepted by Dex because he's in heat? Does anyone else find this really hard to believe. Harry doesn't even mention this code being irrevocably broken. Something that has been hammered for 7 seasons is now glossed over because Dexter has the got the hots for someone he's known very briefly and by all accounts in the past is everything that Dexter detests in a person. Geez he killed his own brother because he knew he was a remorseless killer but spares Hannah because of chemistry that wasn't apparent at all until she went on the table. I guess a nice pair of legs is much more important to Dexter than his brother.
It's making it difficult for me to enjoy the remainder of the season because I find this relationship absolutely ridiculous and Dexter doing a complete 180 with his personality kinda makes all the previous seasons pointless. Too bad because everything else so far has been done quite well. I really hope Hannah dies soon because forcing her as a love interest this way is scraping the bottom of the barrel.Last edited by Seymour Scagnetti; 11-22-2012, 09:22 PM.Comment

Seymour I think this lust-fling-infatuation Dexter is going through is all a part of how he is and will break down... You talk about him ignoring the code and changing as a character.... well this relationship with Hannah probably won't end well...Comment
