They definitely could cover LaGuerata's death by saying Deb followed her (which she did) to find out what she was up to, found her having just shot that bad guy who Dex killed and she was hysterical and Deb had to defend herself from her.

They already set this up by making LaGuerta look like a lunatic trying to frame Dexter and this will be the payoff, Debra will be able to kill her and get away with murder...but she will still have to live with the truth..

      Possible.

Though my question is where is the case that forces these two on a run of some kind?

I think it would make sense to use the LaGuerta case to set off a manhunt. You've got Quinn with an inkling of an idea, Angel retiring and possibly going back into police work to solve one last crime, Matthews will likely find it curious.

It just makes sense to me that this is the death that gets them and it won't even be one Dexter actually committed.

I'm not sure what they are going to do, I thought it obvious they should make it as if LaGuerta was trying to frame Dexter again and Deb caught her in the act, that's not a very big jump from what Dexter was already going to do. Maybe that's what they will do, but showing them at the party seemed to ruin that plan.

Yeah them being at the party together is what makes me believe there won't be anymore protecting. Dexter isn't going to figure out how to save Debra. They are in this together now. Debra made that decision when she put that bullet through LaGuerta.

I wonder how different this show will end up being if Dexter becomes a true anti-hero protagonist.

I love reading previous threads saying Deb is the weak part of the show and she needs to be killed off.

Frankly, she is the reason (other than Dexter, of course) to keep coming back. Jennifer Carpenter is a brilliant actor and plays the role to a tee. I think it's safe to say this show wouldn't be the same without her.

I've never understood that either. She's been outstanding in everything that I've seen her in.

Some people think she overacts. I don't see it.

Seems you either love her or hate her. I hope she lands a series or some movies after Dexter.

I think she over acted early in the series. But from what I see, she has improved dramatically. And she should. She's been in the game longer.

possible, although it really is partially the way the character was written. Just thinking about the early seasons, I'm not sure if it was overacting, or just Deb being an overly sensitive person (and now we're sort of numb to it and expect it from her, whereas early in the series it was a bit of a shock and might have seemed like overacting).

Either way, I thought she was phenomenal this season.

                        Re: Dexter (Season 7)

Well just watched all 12 episodes this season and it can be summed up by saying: holy ****.

I definitely didnt expect it to go this way, The only storyline that wasn't interesting to me was Quinn and the stripper. Everything else was well done. I found Dexter and Hannah's relationship to be very fitting to Dexter's personality and growth as a person/killer. She broke him free of his code with their conversations over time.

I am looking forward to the last season to see just where all of this ends up.

                          Re: Dexter (Season 7)

                          Surprise, mother****er!

                          Season 8 begins in June.

Showtime president David Nevins was on hand at today's TCA (television critics association) tour to provide some updates on the cable network's upcoming slate. Perhaps most significantly, they have designed the premiere dates for their two most popular shows, Dexter and Homeland, to "harness their strength" in order to usher in the next generation of programing for Showtime.

For the first time ever, Dexter will be moved up to a summer premiere, and will act as a springboard for the series premiere of Showtime's new Hollywood-set crime drama starring Liev Schreiber, Ray Donovan. Dexter will premiere on Sunday June 30, at 9 pm followed by Ray Donovan at 10 pm.

"Dexter is to showtime is what Batman is to Warner Brothers," Nevins said. "I want to take care of it in a way that is respectful to the franchise, and takes care of the fans."

When asked if this will indeed be the final season for the popular series, Nevins would not confirm, saying, “We’re not making any announcements today about when Dexter will end. I think I will clarify before Dexter goes on this season. We have a clear end game in place, I can’t talk about it just yet.”
Nevins added, "Dexter's end is a creative decision, and ultimately will be made for creative reasons." Nevins did promise that he would be announcing details on the series' close in the near future.

As far as the renewed energy of this season, Nevins agreed that adding a trajectory toward a conclusion did infuse the series with a creative burst. "I do think the ending and the bringing of Deb into Dexter's private torment and turmoil and story is what revitalized the show."

Nevins has continued to dodge confirming that Season 8 will be the final one for the series since last summer, when Dexter executive producer Sara Colleton said that the series "absolutely would be" ending this year. It's hard not to wonder if Dexter's ever-rising viewership has the network trying to find a way to keep the series alive for just a bit longer, past the point the producers had intended. We saw a network make a similar decision this year when CBS decided to renew How I Met Your Mother, even as it seemed to be approaching the end. Nevins, however, did stress that the quality of the programing is essential to their plan.

Showtime's other hit show, Homeland, will return this fall on Sunday, September 29 at 9 pm followed by the premiere of the new drama series Masters of Sex -- starring Lizzy Caplan and Michael Sheen -- at 10 pm.
I'm worried that they keep avoiding answering whether this is officially the final season or not. On one hand this is my favorite show and I wouldn't mind it being extended because of that, but it's really only right for this to be the end. It's no coincidence the show became infinitely better when the writers knew that this was the beginning of the end rather than just killing time before they reached that point, as we seen with Season 6.

Yeah one one hand I would love to see more seasons if they continue with the momentum and quality that season 7 created and found. As long as season 8 isn't just a "hide everything and let's go back to normal" season I think season 9 could be centered on the manhunt for Dexter once everything he has done comes to light.

Of course I don't see how that wont be season 8 with how season 7 ended. I just really hope they don't just come up with some lame reasoning for Dexter and Deb not to be investigated. Only way I could see them going two more seasons is if season 9 would be the definite end. It would keep the momentum of an imminent end to Dexter through two more seasons.

They were planning on it being the final, while leaving the door open for more if they wanted more time to tell it.
