    1) I never said it was appropriate. Just because I don't think its inappropriate doesn't mean I think it is appropriate.

    2) I say I laughed, but it was more of a "wow, that joke was bad" chuckle. I didn't take offense to it and didn't think it was a big deal. Honestly, the only part of the show that really had me laughing out loud with something more than a chuckle was Daniel Day Lewis's acceptance speech.

      I hear ya'.

Yeah, Day's acceptance speech was one of the highlights of the show.

Okay...then it begs the question.... how long until after someone of importance is assassinated until you can start making a joke out of it?

I don't think there's an answer. There will always be people that think it's inappropriate and those that do not.

I personally found the joke to be a good one. It made me say "wooooow" moreso than laugh, but I'm all about making people feel uncomfortable with what's being said.

Even that seems a little long. I'd say 10 years.

I could probably even be talked down from there, but I am an insanely difficult person to offend.

I can think of one event that occurred about ten years ago that I think a majority of the people would be upset over someone making a joke of it.

Thinking of that, I guess I can see why the Lincoln joke offended people or was at least inappropriate. I can't assume something affects a person the same way it affects me.

Family Guy references aside that I don't get since I haven't watched every episode religiously (did you see what I did there!!)......

I think that certain dignitaries and revered individuals / pioneers are just off limits in my book. There are some guys who've been assassinated longer than 22.3 years ago.... say.... 30 or even 40-ish or so years that would not be touched and probably never will be, and shouldn't be.

Now I will give you McFarland's We Saw Your Boobs song. Pretty sophmorically good!

That one event that you're referring to you is why I'm surprised at any outrage over that Lincoln joke. For MacFarlane, that's actually fairly tame.

The dude did this once (I can't find a video, so I'll just quote it):
                          Spoiler

Which is a bit I laughed at, in full disclosure, but more in a "Holy crap I can't believe they just did that bit" way than a "That was really funny" way.

I guess, what I'm saying is I can't blame MacFarlane for pushing the envelope because that's what he does and I honestly think people should've been expecting it.

It'd be like giving the Oscars to Matt Stone and Trey Parker and then being offended when they said something controversial. Like, what did you think they were going to do?

Let's put it this way, if someone did a joke about MLK's assassination would it be okay to you guys?

The outrage over a joke like that would make MacFarlane's Lincoln joke look like child's play.

BTW yes, that Boobs song was jolly good fun!

It depends if the joke is funny.

If you were alive during the time of the assassination or if it affected you in some way, then okay I can see why you might have a problem with that. But none of us were alive to be directly affected by Lincoln's assassination. He did what he sought to do in his time, and he would be dead by now anyway. Heck, he's probably more famous because he was assassinated as well.

I don't know... I just laugh at jokes if I think they're funny. I don't mean any harm toward that individual myself, it just brought laughter is all. I think I'm the person with the problem for laughing, not Seth. We shouldn't take it out on him for, quite frankly, speaking the truth.
