This particular guy makes his money off of jokes just like the one in question. So I'd say he doesn't care what people don't like it bc he's got a great deal of validation that a great number of people do (if not financially, then by being invited to host the Oscars in the first place). If Brad Pitt stood up there and did that joke it probably would've come across much differently... and probably ending with him issuing an apology, yada yada.

Since this is somehow turning into a thread about JayBee's issue with the Lincoln joke, lets make sure we keep it real here. Everyone has a different background and different reasons why they may or may not find something offensive. The answer to whether or not it's too soon for a Lincoln joke, JFK joke, MLK joke, 9/11 joke, Tupac/Biggie joke, whatever is different for different people. If my wife died on 9/11 it may be harder for me to take a 9/11 joke than you... but it's not just a matter of having a direct connection that makes the event hard to relive through humor. Hell, it could be something as simple as finding Lincoln a great movie that tells a story all Americans should know more about and being offended that a mockery is being made of it on the stage where it'd get the ultimate praise.

With that said, I think anything should be fair game... don't care if it happened last week. Like I said, everyone is different. You're not going to please everyone. Humor is basically a way for us to cope with things in life. Most comedians take some angle on something that's uncomfortable and taboo to talk about and make a joke about it. That's the nature of the business. So I think some of you should cut JayBee some slack but also shouldn't feel bad for laughing at the joke. It was stupid but sometimes that's what makes it funny (I point back to the often mentioned boob song... very stupid and definitely funny).

        True WW.

To some of your other points in your complete post I didn't like the boob song. Also DO CUT ME SOME SLACK, because I am baffled why so few people on OS DIDN'T find this offensive!

Maybe it's an age thing.....there are a lot of young whippersnappers on OS and I am certainly not one of them. Anyway, I'm in the minority on this one.

It's all good. Question for you... are you a Family Guy fan? Or anything similar (South Park, ATHF, American Dad)? I think it makes a big difference knowing what to expect from the host. If you just walked in expecting the Oscars and thinking the host is just another guy who's going to try to be funny before they start the show, I can see how you'd have a stronger reaction to some of his jokes. As many have mentioned here, if you're familiar with his work, he was pretty mild (which actually made it less funny for the most part).

It's strange but picturing him as one of the animated characters doing some of the jokes makes them funnier.

I actually get burned out on animated humor. Early on I watched 3 or 4 years of the Simpsons and then I watched about the same of Family Guy. The exception to my animated humor tendency is Archer which I will watch until it gets canceled.

Considering his association with things animated that's not so far fetched.

I actually was the same... got burned out on the Simpsons years ago (and South Park). When Family Guy came back I was right back in... and have since kept up with most of the other "Adult" animated shows.
