I don't know... I just laugh at jokes if I think they're funny. I don't mean any harm toward that individual myself, it just brought laughter is all. I think I'm the person with the problem for laughing, not Seth. We shouldn't take it out on him for, quite frankly, speaking the truth.
I see your point and I admit I laughed at the joke myself and then admonished myself for it. Seth MacFarlane is in the tradition of guys like Lenny Bruce in that their humor is going to disturb the hell out of you and in some cases make you wonder WTF is wrong with you for laughing at their stuff.

I don't think he actually has malice in his heart like some comedians who are quite vicious and you get a vibe of self loathing and hatred in their tone.

I respect a lot of your posts, but his is just not well thought through. This is the "things before I was born just aren't as important" mentality that drives me crazy. We don't know what else Lincoln may have accomplished that would/could affect the country to this day. And "more famous" because assassinated? Man.... just not thought through before you typed that. So...yeah, I guess that whole assassination thing for William McKinley really helped his infamy as well.

I agree that it made him more famous to a point. It showed how much people were against what he was doing, and how despite being hated by all these people he was able to accomplish so much and helped make this country what it is today. He had almost half the country against him, they hated him so much they wanted to kill him, yet he was able to work past them.

MacFarlane's not going to touch the King or Kennedy assassinations. I know he's a little warped but he's not that stupid.

I think if a film about MLK or JFK were nominated for Best Picture and a Seth MacFarlane type were hosting, the joke would be there.

I don't think a guy like Seth MacFarlane cares what people think about his humor.

Everybody cares what people think about them. I don't care what the rebels or anti establishment types say or project. When you have that massive of an ego it has to be fed.

Well, yeah, he cares if people find him funny. I'm saying I don't think he cares if people find him offensive or say he's a terrible person because he made a joke as a comedian (in his mind).

I would take that a step further and say he actually enjoys offending people with his humor.

I enjoy his humor (and follow him on Twitter), he's been retweeting some stories about people who were offended about various parts of his act at the Oscars.

I really don't get the outrage about his jokes (except for maybe the one directed at Salma Hayek). I thought the Lincoln joke was funny. Not particularly original, but funny. I heard plenty of "Lincoln is doing really well at the theater. Traditionally, this has not been the case" type jokes while that was in theaters. It's been 150 years. I think you can make jokes about. I think Kennedy is okay too. MLK is probably crossing a line.

I really, really don't get the outrage over "We Saw Your Boobs." You don't want people talking about your boobs? Don't be topless in movies. Freaking own it if you're going to do it. Hell, Halle Berry made jokes about being topless at the MTV Awards one year, I believe. And the fact that he mentioned actresses who portrayed rape victims does not mean he's saying rape is okay.

And the Chris Brown joke was pretty good. Because lets be real, those get told all the time. There's a ton of memes about it.

Yeah, after hearing that joke 100 times you were on the floor.

I guess I'm just weird about this, but I'm the type that wouldn't even want people crying at my funeral.

I hope that one day after my death someone can find some humor in it or relate to it in a way that makes them laugh.

It's been how long since Lincoln was shot ?

I don't get offended by very much and I try to find the humor in almost everything related to life. I think this whole thing has been blown out of proportion.

Kennedy '63 vs. MLK '68. Maybe you can PM your rationale to me on that one.

And yes, the hypocracy of the "well, I never!" looks on some of the actresses when he was singing that song only solidifies in me the overall hypocracy attitude of Hollywood. You're either good with all boob references if you put them out there (ahem) or keep those puppies covered. But then again, I don't have boobs..... so maybe I'm not qualified. Ladies?
