Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Given the unbearable pressure they were under to not "ruin" Star Wars, it's not surprising that they went with a tried and true narrative. So it then came down to the new characters, would they work, for me they did, and that made the movie great for me. Empire is still my #1, but I would put this in a tie for second with A New Hope.

Now that a strong foundation has been laid, can the sequels, take the story to the next level, like Empire did.

Fairly certain JJ still had a role overseeing everything.

Kylo Ren was a better villain than i thought he would be. He doesn't compare to Darth, but then no villain in movie history does.

        one difference between the two

Looks like you're right, IMDB says he will be the executive producer for episode VIII!

IMO, J.J. is solid as a director, but even better as a producer.

I think a lot of us were expecting/hoping for that to happen. Definitely a missed opportunity, IMO.

I don't think they missed an opportunity for that at all.

Not a Star Wars fan, but when you're a young woman that looks like Carrie Fisher did (DAMN!) it's hard to live up to your late 50's self.

She looks good, it's her voice that's the problem.

Not for nothing 2.0, I don't see a single thing wrong with pseudo retelling of old stories in the franchise. And the original stories were fantastic.

I still found the movie entertaining but I fell like the movie was to much like a new hope but with just different people. Maybe after a second view the similarities will not bother me has much but I just felt like there where way to many similarities. I hope with the next one they try to make if more some thing new and don't just try to make it a empire 2.0 because I felt like this was a new hope 2.0. Right now I have this like 4th in the star war movies with episode 6, 5, 3 ahead right now. I loved Rey I think she is a great lead actress going forward. I think she was the best part of the movie. Maybe the movie just felt like new hope 2.0 because they had to introduce the new characters and because the villain was some one who wanted to be like Vader or something.

This movie has the record of ******* losers spoiling a movie. I've seen it spoiled in random places all over the net.

Saw it tonight. My theatre has reserved seating. My seat, by pure coincidence, BB8. I think I'll save my ticket stub.

Empire is still my favorite. But this one really makes the prequels look bad. I'll definitely see it again over the holidays.
