Re: New HBO Series True Detective (McConaughey and Harrelson)
The finale was pretty underwhelming. Definately did not expect everything to end so straightforward and upbeat. This show was really about the characters then the story. Kinda shallow the way they explained everything away in a matter of seconds in the hospital that they had spent 7 episodes building up. "oh yeah this guy Childress was a sick **** and he got a bunch of pedophiles to help him out".
What's so bad about upbeat? You didn't find the episode suspenseful?Comment

Re: New HBO Series True Detective (McConaughey and Harrelson)
SpoilerWell it appears that a lot was made out of little details to try to make it some crazy ending that never came to fruition. I absolutely loved the episode, but was a little unsure about the very end cause I just thought somethings were missing.
However(correct me if i'm wrong) now that I think of it, when the family came for Marty she was wearing her wedding ring right? Plus the whole thing with Rust and his family was well done to show the road he's come in his life. Took a little more thinking, but yeah I absolutely love this show and not sure it can be topped for a while even from GOT.Comment

Re: New HBO Series True Detective (McConaughey and Harrelson)
I wondered about that too. Didn't make sense to me. Not to mention all these pedophiles this guy apparently got to help him for these rituals. Where were they? Are they on speed dial somewhere. I just find it weird that this guy was the yellow king and some sort of godlike figure and I figured he would have a cult yet he only lived in the house with his half sister there. I would think some of his accomplices would be living there with him. And how did the cops find out who helped him. He was dead and that woman doesn't look capable of providing any useful info.
SpoilerA number of the people who were involved were already dead (the Ledouxs, Billy Lee Tuttle, whatever other Tuttle ancestors had been a part of this long legacy of depravity, apparently any Childress' that were involved), not to mention they explicitly stated at the end that they didn't catch everyone.
And Senator Tuttle was "cleared" of his rumored involvement, which seems to me to indicate a level of corruption that could not be overthrown by what Rust and Marty were able to accomplish.Comment

Re: New HBO Series True Detective (McConaughey and Harrelson)
Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the series from a character perspective but I expected a little more punch for the ending becasue it had been such a methodical build up. It was very by the numbers. maybe I was expecting a more clever ending in the same style of Seven where by the time the credits rolled i would be thinking about it for days because it was so shocking. This ending left me empty and was not very memorable.Comment

Re: New HBO Series True Detective (McConaughey and Harrelson)
What I don't get it this:
SpoilerWhy did the real guy behind all this pose the victim that they found that started the whole case? If he hadn't done that he could have kept on going forever undetected. As far as I know that was the only victim he posed and it (eventually) got him caught.
I mentioned that to my wife. While you see the forensic crew digging up all of these bodies, why was that one posed so out in the open. It would be nice to know some of those things, but I am not going to mope over it...this was an amazing show through and through.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

It may have been Ledoux who posed that body, or at least it was his meth and lsd that was in her bloodstream.

Re: New HBO Series True Detective (McConaughey and Harrelson)
Im glad that I was wrong about there being a crazy twist. There are enough shows out there like that.
The mystery of the case was quite intense obviously, but there are plenty of quality murder mysteries out there. What made this stand out from the other crime mystery dramas was the relationship and journey of Rust and Marty. That relationship was brilliant up until their final scene in the hospital parking lot.Comment

Liked the series, Loved the character of Rust, finale wasn't that great to me personally.
I found the best parts of this season to be when they talked about the past, most of the present (basically eps 7&8) were a bit of a bore I dunno...Comment

Loved the finale. Loved the show. Top notch television.
As far as the question about why Lange's body was displayed out in the open like it was: I think it's just a matter of the guy exhibiting some serial killer tendencies. Serial killers can start to feel invincible, and then they get reckless. I see it as sort of an arrogant "trophy display" by this guy.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: New HBO Series True Detective (McConaughey and Harrelson)
I felt a little underwhelmed by the end there. The final fight with the yellow king. Idk seemed a bit, rushed? Maybe thats the wrong word but it ended with a headshot right before a guy got hacked? I feel like thats some horror movie ending 101 lameness there.
I also feel bad for people who read way into every little clue. At the end it seemed kinda insignificant to me. They interrogated the cop on the boat, found out about corrupt chain of command, found about about a painted house, looked up taxes, found an old lady, got an address out of their *** and found the compound. Then they just threw in all his associates in one line about pedophiles and voodoo. Man Im glad I didn't read too into the mystery of this show.
All that said, I liked the finale and series. I thought the characters were well developed, and the acting was superb. I just felt the final confrontation with the season's bad guy was underwhelming. I was hoping for a bigger deal than a guy and his sister in a creepy house. And they killed the dog for no reason! Comeon man! lolComment
