I just can't imagine how they're going to match this with a second season.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Eh. I mean they can pull someone like Bale or Clooney or something for the second season and people would be just as excited. You never really know with this series, especially with all the buzz around itHELLO BROOKYLN.

Re: New HBO Series True Detective (McConaughey and Harrelson)
Something doesn't smell right about Marty (Woody).
There have been numerous small, and seemingly inconsequential comments and actions he's made, that seem like nothing on the surface, but may appear to be more in the big picture.
One of which was his ex-wife asking "Are you going somewhere"?
It's almost like the writers have gone out of their way to show how good Marty can be - even with his drinking and adulterous nature.
More than one character has commented that he's a good man at heart.
Like they're throwing us off their scent.
I'm sure it'll end up being no more than a police cover-up, but I just think this show is too clever for it to be a simple solution.
(sorry if this theory was already posted).
EDIT: My crazy theory.
Marty's behind this the whole time.
He probably knows that Rust is on to him. Or could be. He knows how smart Rust is and has said as muc to the current detectives on the case "You think you're watching him, but he's watching you".
So he keeps his enemy as close as possible. They follow all their leads and when it gets down to the end of the tunnel, and it's revealed that Marty's the Yellow King, Marty kills Rust and then manipulates all the evidence to make it look like Rust was the one behind it.
I mean, Rust has a 'Storage Locker of Crazy' that could easily be used to pin the crimes on him.Last edited by Money99; 03-04-2014, 01:40 PM.Comment

And if you want to believe in that whole flat circle thing, Maybe Marty knows exactly what is going to happen just like Ladoux knew what was going to happen next, yet Cohle is out in the dark, so every time Marty is going to do the same thing over and over again which is shooting Ladoux because every time he opens that door he finds those 2 kids but each time he does, he's hoping to find something different. So when he finds them, he screams and runs out and rage quits on Ladoux. Its almost like Groundhog day with no free will, just the same story repeating itself only some people are cognizant of the story and others aren't.
Here is why I don't think its plausible. Marty in the last episode did some major research to get Cohle back on the trail by locating the ex-employee of Tuttle who probably gave those 2 the best lead possible. They know the Spaghetti Man's origins and are honing in on his name. He's hiding in plain sight. Marty could end Cohle at any time and no one would be the wiser or just wait it out without helping, the heat is Cohle and he needs help. Cohle can't turn to anyone else and Marty knows it, so why help him if its going to implicate Marty. IMO, Marty is a decent guy who makes a lot of bad decisions.
I think its all going to come out that almost everyone in the area is connected in someway or another, either directly or indirectly. I have a feeling that Marty's Father In Law may be involved and it touched his daughter as well which is why she's so messed up and Marty is going to feel personally responsible for that in the end because he didn't catch all of this sooner.
Its really about the detectives and probably about the butterfly effect of their actions rather than about the crimes themselves.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: New HBO Series True Detective (McConaughey and Harrelson)
If I can play devils advocate in pushing my theory of Marty's guilt further, I quoted the above.
There hasn't been one point, in all of the episodes, where Marty has seemed to be capable of good or ********* police work.
He seems to be a 'regular' detective; "The Butler's always guilty".
What if he didn't actually do any work to find the information on Tuttle's ex employee?
What if he knew it was him all along and just made B.S. up so Cohl believed his story about finding that evidence?
Just some food for thought.Last edited by Money99; 03-04-2014, 03:11 PM.Comment

Re: New HBO Series True Detective (McConaughey and Harrelson)
Any significance to Marty throwing up after beating the living crap out of those two (one off screen) kids (basically), other than feeling like a hypocrite?
So, could the video that repulsed Marty so much be of himself?Comment

Re: New HBO Series True Detective (McConaughey and Harrelson)
So Ive got a theory about the whole its a big circle thing.
SpoilerI think the thing has been happening for years over time. New detectives find a female victim with the antlers and go into a maddening crime search. Then it all plays over again. Detectives Key and Peele are piecing the case together going to the same spots that Rust and Marty have already been. Im guessing they end up in the same place finding two kids locked up and the circle will repeat itself.Comment

Good points, but why wouldn't Marty just take out Rust, unless he's worried about a trail of evidence that could bite him in the butt?
So, could the video that repulsed Marty so much be of himself?
Needless to say, I'm really excited for next week's episode. I can't wait to see how it all comes together.
I'm also in the camp who aren't sure how Season 2 is going to top this.
The writing, story, actors have all been top-notch.
In a way, I hate how it's only 8 episodes. But if the shorter volume means better quality I'll take it.
Walking Dead could learn a thing or two about that.Comment

Excellent thoughts all around fistofrage.

I would agree that Marty has been a pretty bad cop for most of the show, but the police force down there is like a good ole boy network. You do just enough to get by so you have a job and can party as you please and take what you want. Now in 2012, he's off the force, he has his own investigative PI company so he has to know how to do research and do a decent job or he isn't going to get paid. Marty has turned over a new leaf, keeps to himself, doesn't drink, etc. But its too late.
This is where the tragedy of the story comes in, His daughter was being abused right under his nose by people he knows and he could have prevented it. Its not one of those, people always have time to change and make stuff right Christmas Carol stories, this is one of those there is no undoing what you effed up, you made your bed now sleep in it stories.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: New HBO Series True Detective (McConaughey and Harrelson)
Your points are all excellent ones fistofrage and I agree with all of them.
I suppose my desire (maybe need?) is that due to my love of twists, I want to have an 'omg' ending to this all.
I think I may be a bit disappointed if it turns out the butler really did do it.
So it's more of me projecting my desire that Marty or Cohl is the man behind the mask.Comment
