Re: Paul Walker killed in car accident

Reading the latest, the previous owner was Graham Rahal, who sold it because it was too hard to drive. Porsche's own test driver was afraid of it. Sounds like too much car, that had some type of mechanical failure. There was already a double fatal back in 2005, at California Speedway where the car they were driving suddenly broke loose and turned right into the wall, killing both drivers. Jay Leno spun one at Talledega. It sounds like a killer car, that has to handled with extreme care.....

Re: Paul Walker killed in car accident

Others have said enough and I won't try to be redundant.

I don't know why this death has bothered me so much. I didn't particularly care for Paul Walker. I knew who he was, I knew he was in the Fast and Furious films, but that's where my recognition of his work ends. I never watched any of the F&F films. I simply had no real emotional connection to the man.

But for whatever reason, when I heard about this news, it hit me hard. Maybe it was hearing he was only 40 years old. Maybe it was feeling upset that I never explored his career and got to know the guy theatrically. Or maybe because it just seemed rather unfair that someone who didn't make too much of his celebrity passed away when his example should be given all the years in the world.

All I know is that Paul Walker's death bothered me. Bothered me so much I even had a dream just last night, from his perspective of being in the car just as it crashed. I don't know why I would have this dream, but I did. His death has just weighed heavy on my mind.

For those (especially the Facebook crowd) that try to diminish this death questioning why people care so much for someone they don't know when people die everyday: I can only say it's because we did know Paul Walker. Maybe he wasn't our friend. Maybe he wasn't our father. But he existed in our lives in some shape or form, and knowing that those memories are all that we will have of him is enough to make us care that his life is lost.

RIP to him. And I can only hope the best for his daughter.

        Nice post CMH.

I agree....and I don't think that you need any personal connection to a person who dies to have some definite hard hitting emotions about it.
I'm totally with you on that.

Celebrity or not, stuff like this is so hard to process. No one deserves to suffer like that. There was an on site video that was shot right after the accident happened where you could here screams coming from the car. Chilling stuff and was incredibly hard to watch.

Paul Walker's character was well documented. He was genuinely one of the good guys in the industry, and it's always sad to lose one of those like this.

Prayers definitely go out to both families involved.
From everything that I've seen so far (I've been watching a lot of the news memorial things for him). They said that Paul got them to temporarily stop filming so that he could try and raise more money for the disaster in the Philippines. He got most of the main stars to shoot a little video to try and get more people to donate while they were on set, too.

You're in Germany where driving conditions are significantly different than in LA. Not sure how this has any relevance here.

Plus...even Porsche test drivers have stated that driving the GT is scary at best.

Re: Paul Walker killed in car accident

Obviously not the bigger deal here amid everything else, but because it's the Entertainment section it's still worth noting: Fast & Furious 7 film production is to be put on hold.

I'm sure it's still due to come out, and as I said in the beginning, I bet even Paul would want that in the end. I actually can't wait to see him on screen again, and the first time I do I oughta applaud for that guy. Maybe even in the first trailer I see in theaters.

Also within the article it says: "Universal announced Tuesday that it will donate a portion of the proceeds from the upcoming DVD, Blu-ray and digital release of "Fast & Furious 6" to Walker's charity Reach Out Worldwide." Generous and proper move. Thanks, guys.

                        What a weirdly constructed sentence.

Very sad. Even more reason for him to act more responsible.

Not sure what is weird about it. I stated I drive over 100 mph all the time and he said it wasn't relevant because I was in Germany. So I replied that I did it when I returned to the States as well.

I think he was just saying that you stated "that's neither here nor there" when your sentence also says you do it in Florida, and we can assume Germany.

He knows what the phrase stood for, so I don't think it was an attack. It appeared to be an observation of how the phrase following that sentence could be misconstrued.
