Just taking a stab at answering a couple of these.

To which she then makes a point of the officer remembering her name. Ok? How do these two things connect? So that cult wants you to remember people who die/vanish yet they are the ones who are breaking into homes and stealing photos and mementos?
At first I was thinking the same thing you were, why would they steal the family photos if they want people to remember? Well, then it became clear that they stole the photos to have those dolls made (remember the commercial, "with just one photo we can create yada yada yada"), I'm assuming they're going to break back into these people's homes and leave the dolls of their departed posed in their homes.

Because, as I understand it, they're trying to stage these killings as if their group is being brutally murdered. Which would, in turn, bring more attention to their group. People definitely took notice when the lady was stoned to death.

Yeah, she definitely wanted Kevin to kill her. That would be perfect for gaining some more publicity for their group.

As for her killing herself. She pretty much went in there wanting to die, so maybe when it became clear that Kevin wasn't going to do it, she took matters into her own hands, hoping Kevin would still get connected to the crime scene?

Cult members aren't the most rational folks out there...

All valid points and good posts from everyone (pro or con). The only connections I made watching without reading it here were the pictures being stolen from the homes / the clothes off those departed being lined up on the floor / the money being used to order the departed dolls.

As you guys said they'll dress up the dolls then place them somewhere for all to see.

Looks like the daughter is joining the mother with the smokers (maybe in a reverse psychology effort to get her to see the ridiculousness of the cult & leave?).

Not sure if the dipping, dog hunter is Kevin's alter ego or real. I could've sworn he was acknowledged in the bar or by his daughter. Then again the cop had found dip man's truck in Kevin's driveway, and dip man said to Kevin that he could keep the truck. Does have that Tyler Durden angle.

Love the show, love the intro music, kinda gives me a Halloween vibe when listening to it.

I'm torn on this show...on one hand I love introspective philosophy and ambiguous plot lines but just as in Lost I'd like to get SOME clarity or I going to just think I'm being suckered again. Will watch but may not be for too much longer if this looks like it's going to be a big jumbo jumbo like Lost ended up being.

if they go Tyler Durden, I'll be pissed. HE was acknowledged by the smoker lady numerous times. I know the style is made to make it seem that way, and it could end up being that, but imo they didn't cover their bases well enough to justify it. What I think is happening I'll explain below because it ties into the cult people.

The cult thing is strange and I won't understand because it's too extreme and why can't you continue living AND remember the day and mourn the losses?

My guess is that they are aware something bigger is happening, just like the weird guy that takes your pain away. The sheriff's 'episodes' for lack of a better word to me is part of it - he is being controlled and manipulated either by aliens or by the cult in some weird way to advance this big 'thing' that's going on. His dad obviously isn't crazy and is tapped into what he experiences during sleep but on a more 24/7 basis imo. I even thought for a minute that the dog killer IS his dad in some weird way or at least the same guy his dad talks to - so in that way some people can see him and some people can't - and perhaps the smokers can? or some of them at least?

Also the sheriff's shirts and boots everywhere made it seem obvious to me that he is part of a group that is manipulated and participated in the stoning among others.

Nah. They still can have the Tyler Durden angle even with the dog hunter being real. Remember he said to Kevin go back in the truck and take a nap, I want to talk to the other guy. Or something along those lines.

I said it before and I will say it again, anyone looking for answers about what happened on the 14th should quit watching this show right now. They will not explain that, ever.

Right. The creators specifically said before the show aired that they would never explain what happened. What happened is not the point, but instead the show is a character drama about the ways in which the rapture-like event effected the characters and the world at large. If people are looking for answers, and will be unsatisfied if they don't get them, then they should probably stop watching the show. It's not about why the rapture happened, but rather it's about what happened after the rapture for those left behind.

The show is based on a best-selling book, and the book's author is one of the co-creators of the show. The book made it clear up-front that it would not provide any answers, and the show is following the book in that regard.

I thought it was a great episode. Interesting to get some more background on some of the characters.

There was one part I wasn't clear on, the whole thing with that Michael guy and Kevin's son (or, apparently not his son). I was ducking in and out during that scene. I assume he is the kid's (name escapes me) father, and left him and his mom when he was young or something?

I think thats the son's biological father. He probably walked out on he and his mom or there was domestic abuse or something like that. Thats probably why the copdad has zero respect for his authority over the son. He said "hes not your father, Im your father" and the son agreed. So something went terribly bad there.
