    Marvel's Daredevil (Netflix Original Series)

    Available on Netflix April 10th!!

So I have been anticipating this show more than any other TV show or movie... ever.

A lot of trailers and promos have come out, and the studio sent the first five episodes out for different media outlets to review. Last night was also the red carpet premier for the first two episodes. Of the 13 reviews I skimmed (as to not read spoilers) they were ALL overwhelmingly positive. Some excerpts:

...So far the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has only had two hours to develop any one of their major villains (save for Loki) so forgive the hyperbolic statement: Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk is the most terrifying villain to ever emerge in this live action universe.

Daytime chase scenes are replaced by dark alley muggings; superhero quips are replaced with the sound of blood splatter and crushed bone. Tonally and aesthetically, the show is far darker and different than anything that Marvel has produced thus far– but in exploring a new color, Marvel has just found yet another corner of the comic book world to dominate.

But when the otherwise chaste Daredevil chooses to get bloody — which is often — it does so in spectacularly brutal fashion.

... It’s everything Nolan’s Batman never had time to explore, everything Arrow wants to be without network boundaries, and exactly the street-level drama Marvel needs to complete its superhero world.

Daredevil takes its time in revealing all the key players in the series, their motivations, and even their names. It’s masterful.

...The acting is fantastic all around. Every single character delivers in their role. Charlie Cox is both heroic and sadistic as a lawyer by day and a vigilante by night. Watching Cox and Rosario Dawson together on-screen together is a treat as Dawson’s character, Claire Temple, aids Murdock with medical attention for his wounds. Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll bring the much-needed levity when the series starts to feel dark and heavy. Vondie Curtis-Hall was born to play Ben Urich and John Patrick Hayden delivers one hell of performance as Jack Murdock that will likely leave a few people in tears.

However great these actors may be, in my eyes they can’t compare to Toby Leonard Moore’s Wesley and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin.

...DeKnight has carefully assembled a cast that works off each other with the intensity and chemistry that some shows can only dream about....

...That’s why this series works so well, it’s not about one man, it’s about a neighborhood, it’s about the people, and it’s about functioning in your patch of grass in a larger world that doesn’t even notice you...

...Visually, “Marvel’s Daredevil” is one of the best adaptations of a comic book I’ve seen, as the framing and depiction of the city look exactly like a Daredevil comic come to life.

If you're one of those folks who wants to see Marvel take on the Punisher one of these days, it's a safe bet that character can exist in all of his mass-murdering glory within the confines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe...

...Even if you feel that you're beginning to burn out on superheroes, you won't want to miss Daredevil. Masked vigilantes and caped crusaders may be taking over the airwaves, but even the best of them (Arrow when it fires on all cylinders, the consistently good The Flash) tend to stick pretty close to the weekly formula. That's not the case, here. While certain elements of Daredevil wrap up in each chapter, there's certainly no "villain of the week."

Without a doubt, the reaction they got was even better than they’d hoped. I didn’t see or hear a single person who offered anything less than glowing praise, and the applause were frequent and enthusiastic...

...The episodes are like mini-movies, and taken together the first two episodes could have been released almost as-is — with only a few minor tweaks to add some cinematic sense of scale — and it would’ve been hailed as one of Marvel’s best films to date.

Daredevil is the equivalent of Frank Miller’s writing style and sense of storytelling come vividly to life...

...It is instantly the best superhero serialized show “on the air” so to speak

It looks awesome and the boardwalk empire guy cast as DD is a great fit IMO.

Marvel absolutely needs to make this happen!!

Though Murdock (Charlie Cox) was actually in prison during Civil War and so it'd actually be the actor cast as Iron Fist in the background saying something cool. But I think there's less than a 1% chance the MCU follows the story just like in the comics. All the better as I want Matt in Civil War!

I've thought about making this thread for a while. I'm off this Friday, so it will be, play some ball in the morning, eat a huge breakfast, and watch all of season one for the rest of the day.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

When people were saying that they couldn't wait for Daredevil on Netflix... I thought they were speaking of the Daredevil film with Ben Affleck...

                  Thank god.

My expectations are so unbelievably through the roof, I don't know how they can be met.

In terms of tone, what other shows can you compare Daredevil to?

Charlie Cox: I'm not just saying this but I genuinely feel that this show is unlike anything I have seen. Steven DeKnight has done an amazing job. However, there are times when I feel like the show is a bit like The Wire. I hope so at least.

(The Wire happens to be my favorite show ever. Dead.)

They do, but of course if you don't have a streaming device, you have to watch it on your computer.
