The Atlantic covers news, politics, culture, technology, health, and more, through its articles, podcasts, videos, and flagship magazine.
Seems like according to this article they make their money by their subscribers. Each time they produce a new show they need that much more subscribers in order to break even on what they spent.Comment

Re: Marvel's Daredevil (Netflix Original Series)
As far as the money angle, maybe Netflix should get into the a la carte offering as well. For people who don't want Netflix, but want to see a given Netflix series (short of going the pirate route, which a lot of people don't wanna fool with), they can offer a special deal like $1/episode or something like that.Last edited by daflyboys; 04-22-2015, 12:10 PM.Comment

Re: Marvel's Daredevil (Netflix Original Series)
I would assume that's the benefit of being on Netflix or HBO, the fact that they have constant money coming in from subscriptions and don't have to rely on advertising means that they can take chances on things that regular channels can't. Like the HBO Scientology doc, there's not a lot of channels that have the kind of money to put that out and fight the litigation that comes with it. I think they just make stuff, see if people want to keep watching it, and if they don't they'll cancel it, but it's not really hurting them in the end because they have so much money on hand and guaranteed money for the foreseeable future.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Marvel's Daredevil (Netflix Original Series)
But that can't be cheap. I just read that HBO has 160 lawyers going over the film (that can't be right!) to shield itself from Scientology lawsuits. Even if it's 20 lawyers, that's gotta be a serious chunk of change. I don't think Netflix is gonna be sued anytime soon by blind people or big, fat gangsters! Well, hope not.Comment

Re: Marvel's Daredevil (Netflix Original Series)
I did the math once with a friend based on the reported number of Netflix subscribers.
Their yearly revenue is stupid. The cost of making these shows doesn't touch one million an episode. But even if you allowed it to, it's "easy" for them to dump $13 million on a series.
They make that like nothing.
When you look at what Friends cost, I think I assumed they would gain one million new subscribers in the year and they made out like bandits.
Plus you have to consider it's still expanding and hasn't even touched 10% of Americans.

I assumed everyone knew that but that's my new york centric mind thinking. I'm sure there are thousands of neighborhoods I'm not familiar with in other cities.
