Wow!!! Count me I the group that thinks this was amazing. I absolutely loved it. Vader was done so well and that last scene with him.....just......wow. I agree it started slow but I was totally fine with it. I wanted to know and learn about these new characters. I wanted as much info as they could give me. The end battle was done so well. Just fantastic. The visuals were amazing. The loses felt so real. This wasn't your average Star Wars affair. The tie ins with A New Hope were so great too. Man so much to like about this film. I thought Ben Mendelsohn was really good as Director Krennic. I've enjoyed his work every since I saw him in Bloodline. I know I'm rambling lol. Bottom line great movie. Oh and K-2SO was the ****.

Rey, Poe, Fin, Kylo are better then any Characters in this movie out side of Vader.

I think Rey served her purpose better in that regard.

The last scene with Vader is worth the price of a ticket. We finally, FINALLY get to see Vader being the badass we all thought he was for decades.

I think the rest of the movie is great - it's a war movie set in the Star Wars universe. I would have loved to have seen Boba Fett involved in one of the fight scenes. Plus, as I said earlier, it was good to see stormtroopers not be totally inept. The black special ops stormtroopers are very cool. And thank goodness there are no teddy bears beating up on what is supposed to be the most feared army in the galaxy.

There is no such thing as an overrated or underrated movie. One either likes it more than, less than, or as same as someone else. You will be in the majority opinion on some films, in the minority on others. I think this movie is great, another person may think it's okay, and some else will think it's flat out terrible. We're all right.

While the reason I said I think people are overrating it in this thread is because in this thread I am seeing a lot more love for the movie then I am around the rest of the internet.

Interesting I fell like about 90% of the time FA is a much better movie then R1 and out side of Vader and yes Vader was amazing but 5 minutes does not make a movie and out side of those parts I don't see any thing that R1 does that is really that good.

My problem with Force Awakens was it hit on beats that were too familiar and established in the previous movies. In a lot of ways it felt like A New Hope - 30 years later. It was a good movie and the three main characters look to be handled great, but while watching the movie I kept relating it back to ANH with a lot of the scenes.

Anyway, we went and saw this on Christmas Eve and if The Force Awakens was to re-start the series to attract new comers then Rogue One was definitely for the long-time fans. I enjoyed the rag-tag cast and how it showed the broad base of support for the Rebellion. It went along way to flesh out the movie-verse and make it feel bigger than it has with the Skywalker space opera.

The final act was fantastic. Moving across multiple fronts was seamless and it reminded me of those classic final acts of the original trilogy. Then Vader with the epilogue was just frosting on the cake. Holy. ****. Balls.

I'm assuming they put that in there to make up for that awful scene in the middle of the film with that lame, James Bond villain one liner?

The CGI faces were good, but still a little off to me. I'm sure on the next viewings it won't be distracting, but its just slightly "off." Still, it wasn't nearly as weird as the young Tony Stark from Captain America: Civil War.

True, we may sit next to each other in the same theatre and even see it differently. However, the so-called boring slow beginning spoke about in this thread, I saw as character development and story telling. I wanted to get to know these characters I'm seeing for the first time, and the movie allowed me to do that. It was a huge payoff for the fate that awaited them. I felt for Jyn and the rebels. Those with a shorter attention span or those seeking immediate gratification would see it differently.

Because I mentioned this, I want to go about it again and state that I could sit through ten hours of character development and I shouldn't get bored at all.

That being said, I didn't get bored, because I didn't say that it was boring; I said that it was a chore to get through. It actually goes too fast. Episodes I - III had this issue of going scene to scene and I'm sitting there trying to get a solid connection/foundation of what is going on. Most of the time I'm sitting there watching scenes without Jyn, and it was hard for me to connect that she may be an integral piece to the whole puzzle but there is no reason for her to be considered the lead in this larger scheme of things. She is just one of them.

That's why having that first part be longer would have been more appropriate. The way that they rush it and jump around makes me try and process things too quickly, and perhaps not have enough care or concern for everybody. I almost would have felt it worthy to skip for that reason.

Again, not boring... just tedious. I don't have a short attention span. I have a long one, and want it to be utilized. This is the same issue that BvS had in theaters. The extended cut addressed the awkward pacing issues I had with the first hour of that story. I hope there is an extended cut of this film that lengthens the scenes in the beginning of R1 as well.

Saw R1 over Christmas with the family.

                                R1 > FA

It's still fresh, but right now I'd place it about 5th in the list of 8. FA is 7th for me.

This felt like a new story, unlike FA which felt like a remix of ANH. It was refreshing to be reminded of what a true villain looks like after watching the whiny b*tch that is Kylo in FA.
