How bad is the shaky cam? Is it Blair Witch bad? I've always wanted to watch Cloverfield but I was afraid because I just can't do the shaky cam stuff. Makes me feel hella nauseous.

If it means anything, my friend who once had a seizure from watching Saw III said that he had to leave the theater during Cloverfield because of the shakiness. I never thought him to be the type, but oh well.

You'd figure a smaller screen wouldn't be as bad, but I dunno too much.

There really is only one scene specifically where the cameraman is running (he falls on the ground in the scene), and that has the worst shakiness for sure. Most of it is "stable" with a lot of zooming, sometimes quick pans from character to character, but nothing like a Paul Greengrass film lol!

I have not seen The Blair Witch Project, FWIW.

Thanks. I'm sure it'd make me sick then. I can't even play first person shooters for to long lol. Kinda sucks. I bet if I watched it on my phone I'd be good since it's such a small screen.

I don't think it's about being a "type". It's more of a physiological thing and I'm sure is out of his control.

I did not find it to be stable overall. I segments, yes, of course. But if someone struggles with shaky cam, I'd advise caution.

I should have clarified: one of his favorite movies is Zombieland, he plays FPS games, loves roller coasters, doesn't have any glasses/contacts, is not epileptic, etc. I didn't mean "tough guy" or anything, just that I've never witnessed such a thing from him before.

It really is a crazy sensation. For me at least I go from being totally fine to just gone where I need to lay down for about a half hour to feel normal again. It's weird too because sometimes I can watch/play something like that for a good hour or so and then it hits me but then sometimes it takes only 10 min. Super dumb. I even tried Dramamine years ago because I really wanted to play some first person shooter game that was all the rage at the time. It did work but it made me super tired. Pretty sure I fell asleep playing the game lol.

As someone who knows a lot about Dramamine its biggest side effect is drowsiness. I'd suggest going to Target or Walmart and buy Bonine. Give that a try and it should solve your problem.

                    It's active again.

Those who don't know, that was the viral site for Cloverfield, it shut down after the DVD release, so it's interesting it's back live.

Some Reddit chatter says this movie was filmed as a stand alone film called "Valencia" for under $5 mill but the studio was shut down. Paramount bought the rights and made some changes to fit it into the Cloverfield story. Good for me since I hated the first Cloverfield movie but think this looks interesting. Bad for those looking for a true sequel.

So how involved was JJ Abrams with this?
