    Re: Cord cutting

Recently cut the cord, but can receive one of the large streaming options free. Perks of the job.

So I’ve been messing with things, hooked my laptop up to my TV, etc.

The worst part is it’s just a hassle to figure out if your service provider offers these channels, or if you have to go to those channels specific website to stream their stuff (Disney). It’s also dependent upon device, apparently.

Cable is simply easier, but if you can navigate things (which are constantly changing), cutting the cord and streaming is the way to go to get a very similar package of channels for half the price.

Trying to convince my dad to cut the cord too. He only really watches sports that are broadcast on the main networks like ESPN, ABC, etc, but he's dropping lots of cash on it. I want him to go for a Roku Ultra and just pick up Youtube TV or Sling.

Sounds like you want online tv subscription and not individual streaming services.
Kenny: Ok Vic, I'm ready for some girl on girl action.
Vic: No Kenny, that's girl versus girl.
        Kenny: What's the difference?
Vic: Well, in one, one girl wins. In the other....
        Kenny: Everyone wins?!?!

I had Sling for a month for free and hated it.
It just wasn't user friendly if you ask me.
it also "stuttered" like craze compared to the other streaming services I tried.

I ended up going with the PSVue and couldn't be happier.

            Re: Cord cutting

Finally got rid of DirecTV. After having it for 7 years and going through my yearly dance with them to get the price lower, this year they wouldn't give me anything. My bill was going to increase by about $80 a month. I said nope, cancel it. They didn't even try to get me to stay on the original call. They did call back, once it was disconnected (which was about 2 days after the disconnect), and ask if they could reconnect to see what deals they could do. I said no and just to leave it disconnected.

We decided to go with YouTube TV and are enjoying it. We very rarely watch live tv; mainly just for sports. I am definitely glad to be rid of the box and the yearly dance with DirecTV.

Same experience here, they didn't really try that hard to keep us back in January. Then a week later they called and begged.

They just called again yesterday and I let it go to voicemail.

I don't have any desire to go back to $125 a month when I'm paying $69 to Playstation Vue and besides having to occasionally reboot our Roku it's the same exact thing.

We watch too many shows on cable to drop down to stereo sound for them. Would love to go to streaming TV, but not at the cost of surround. Just losing the center channel is a massive downgrade, especially for sports.

My wife was a little reluctant at first because she loved DirecTV and the DVR. Once I added up all the other "fees" that go with having DTV and the amount of shows we actually watch versus just waiting for them to go to Netflix/Hulu/Amazon, she said it was a no brainer to just get rid of DTV. She actually prefers using YouTube TV now because its more streamlined.

I never thought I would give in to a streaming service, but the flexibility and pricing that is offered makes it really easy.

Same here. We've had Hulu with Live TV since it started and have loved it. We were paying about $110/month for Dish, and now we're in the mid-60s (we added the HBO and no commercials add on). Between Hulu and Netflix, we're totally fine. Watching World Cup now (on the local station Hulu offers...they have them all), watched March Madness perfectly fine, and it's great when on the road because our package is with US and not stuck at our house!

                        Re: Cord cutting

We dropped Direct TV a little over a year ago. Since then it's been Hulu with showtime add on and Netflix. I recently added Amazon Prime video. With these 3 we have all the shows we watched on DTV and we save $65.00 per month. I tried PlayStation VUE a couple times for a month at a time. It's ok but overpriced in my opinion.

For NFL and NHL I have a web site that steams every game. Can't believe I was paying $300.00 for NFL Sunday ticket for years when I could have been using the interweb.

The only real expense is the Supercross / Motocross package I subscribe to from NBC Gold. Got a package deal on both seasons for $75.00

My only complaint is it takes Netflix way to long the get new seasons of shows. They still do not have season 4 of Better Call Saul yet and it ended on regular TV months ago. It also sucks when the cancel a show out of nowhere , see Santa Clarita Diet. Wish it was next day like Hulu.

So pretty much with the monthly savings I can buy a new video game every month. But I usually wait for sales so that's more than a game a month.

I kid you not I had a couple buddies over last night to watch the NBA Finals.
We were watching on the PSVUE straight from my PS4.
I now have my sound bar hooked up direct to the PS4 and one of my buddies kept saying he couldn't believe how good the sound was.
