To be clear, I was calling to cancel service, which I have had with Charter for about 5 years, and had their internet for close to 10 years. They first offered a reduced rate on the package I have, minus the movie channels. I passed.
It waster a bit they suggested this, as something they do not advertise, and you can't find anywhere. Supposedly it is based on loyalty, and such and such. My first inclination was to say no to this, too, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that this was the deal I really wanted.
They do offer a deal with just the locals, but that is just $2 a month less. And really, I get great reception for all my locals, so I didn't need that at all.
I offer not guarantees on what they will offer you. I have also been super reliable on paying bills and such. Also, I was very clear that I was cutting cable, not switching to a competitor.
But yeah, I went from 100% cutting cable to taking this deal and feeling really good about it. I was surprised that they really did let me pick any channels, except Fox Sports Midwest. Getting AMC, FX, and USA were pretty critical, for me. Getting ESPN keeps me in the loop for ESPN3, and Kansas airs every game not on ESPN proper on ESPN3.
The real bummer is is not being able to get FSMW. Not only does that cost me the Blues, but FSMW started airing Pacers and Grizzlies games when the Blues were off. Not so much a fan of those teams, but it was nice to get more NBA.
And this deal makes it unlikely that I will pay for a live TV service just to get it. We really need the pro leagues to lift the local blackout rules for when we purchase their game passes. Maybe offer a higher their that allows local teams.
