I didn’t see that coming but maybe I should have. I wonder who will ultimately get the job?

Even aside from recent news, the whole "can you believe it, I chose myself as the best replacement!" was a bad look.

Now they're restarting the search? Just makes it look like this:

was correct. If there was a legit host search going on (not necessarily all being these guest spots, of course), by now they'd have a list of names to offer the job to.

They're making this too complicated. Did Alex ever recommend anyone? He must have, right? I would trust his recommendation on this. See if they want to do it.

The whole thing has been a horrible look for them.

I do wonder if he ever had anyone in mind as a replacement.

At least for a show like Price is Right, I'm sure Bob Barker had a huge say in his replacement, and Drew Carey has been a good choice (obviously nobody can compare to Barker, but Drew has been good).

Would've been hard to move in from Trebek in normal circumstances like him retiring, but obviously in this case, talk about pressure.

To me, Ken Jennings seems like the most blatantly obvious replacement, I don't really understand why they're making it so complicated. It almost seems like all the controversy keeping a pretty dated and staid gameshow in the news is exactly what they want....

It's funny you bring up how the price is right did it. Richards auditioned to replace Barker. There is a good article about him on The Ringer and this process of replacing Trebek. Apparently Richards has been wanting to host a game show for a long time.

Kind of nerdy…I’d lean more toward a John Houseman type. I think Jennings also devalued his Jeopardy host standing by appearing on that Game channel. EDIT: Game Show Network

In that case, I hope someone's keeping an eye on Pat Sajak.

He's also currently on The Chase.

I'd prefer he just competes. Same with James Holzhauer and Brad Rutter.

I kind of liked Buzzy Cohen hosting, personally.

I'm not a fan of Bialik. Anyone else think her voice is like nails on a chalkboard? And she didn't know who Neil Gorsuch is...like come on.

How did her not knowing who Neil Gorsuch is come to light?

I was annoyed by the way how she moves her head like she's dodging bullets.

Too nerdy for "Jeopardy"??? I'm not sure I agree that's a thing.

I like him on "The Chase", which, incidentally, I'm happy has made its way to our shores. When I was vacationing in the UK (back in the before-times), I watched the living crap out of that show, and nearly missed a few appointments/trains due to watching it.

Jennings is a geek of course, but he also pretty clearly is the 'senior' figure in that "Chase" crew, and I personally think he has the gravitas to host a show like "Jeopardy" moreso than anyone else they've pitched so far. Personally, I don't even think there's a close second.

How is she even in the running? Because she played a dorky character on a TV show? I'm aware that she has "IRL" degrees and what-not, but she has the most forgettable / neutral presence ever. Just get a computer to read the questions if you're going to go that route.

For contestants it's practically a requirement. But were Art Fleming and Alex nerdy?

Alex was nerdy. At least bookish. He definitely wasn't un-ironically "cool", at least not by the pop culture sense of the word (which was to his everlasting credit IMO).

When it comes to hosts of shows, usually they do get a name that people will be familiar with. In her case, it probably is a combination of her real life intellect and her TV presence.

The popularity from BBT and of course Blossom as well. Though I did like her TV characters more than her real life self.
