How about Metallica's album Garage Inc. All their covers are way better than the originals.

Elvis' version of "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" > The Righteous Brothers' version of the song

Except for Joe Cocker's cover for "With a little help from my friends", I hate covers. The original version is always better IMO. Not to mention that people take classic hits from 60's-70's and make 'em 2000's, and I hate it! Take your hands off that great music!

Lol, I agree to some extent but you don't have to listen to the covers. I don't hate that people make covers of good songs; imitation is the strongest form of flattery even if it's not as good. The cover may be unoriginal and sucky but I just don't listen to them; no need to hate.

I try not to listen, but today whenever u turn on the radio or TV u just can't avoid it. IMO imitation is the strongest form of saying: OK, we can't write anything great. So we'll just take this wonderful song, sing it like we can and make millions of dollars without even contributing to the world of music. That's my opinion anyway, been for many years, and probably not gonna change.
Anyway, dude, u can't tell me what to hate and what not. It's like if I told u not to love your girlfirend because it's not right. Same here.

Re: Covers Good or Better Than Original?

These are great songs by both artists. These are ones that I personally like the cover better, but am not saying it is better:

"I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier" - Mad Season (originally John Lennon)
"Another Brick in the Wall" - Class of '99 feat. Layne Staley/Tom Morello (Pink Floyd)
"Sweet Dreams" - Marilyn Manson (Eurythmics)
"Rockin' in the Free World" - Pearl Jam (Neil Young)
"Sonic Reducer" - Pearl Jam (Dead Boys)
                  "D-7" - Nirvana (The Wipes)

I like the original better, but Ryan Adams did a great cover of "Down in a Hole" by Alice in Chains. Also, I also like Johnny Cash's cover of Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage."

99% of covers aren't as good as the original imo, the only one that I can think of that is better is Cheap Trick - Don't Be Cruel (Elvis Presley cover) but I'm sure some King fans would argue that.

No love for The Jimi Hendrix Experience's cover of Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower?"

And I would say 99% of the covers that are released as singles are definite trash. Live covers are usually pretty good.

Twist and Shout by The Beatles, originally by The Isley Brothers.

That's really the only one I can think of.

The only cover I think is better than the original is Hendrix's version of "All Along the Watchtower." That is probably one of my favorite songs ever. I love Bob Dylan but his version isn't even close to what Jimmy did with it.
