    Re: Official E3 Discussion Thread

I do rememeber the BS thrown by Sony about the PS2, and many people bought it then. I guess things never change. It seems people, including the dolts at G4, are now buying into the cinematic presentations as being factual. I'll never understand it.

MS did the right thing IMHO, presenting most of their games with actual gameplay footage. I like that better than watching movies.

      Re: Official E3 Discussion Thread

In any event, it's all a moot point. Third party developers are going to be developing for both consoles simultaneously and are going to create products which look remarkably similar. The PS3 could be three times as powerful and the vast majority of its games would look like marginally upgraded Xbox 360 games. Having been through four years worth of Xbox games that were clearly designed with the PS2 in mind, I'm not going to get worked up over a spec war. This is all hype for hype's sake.

            IGN's Steve Ballmer Interview

Energetic, charismatic, loud yet savvy -- Microsoft's colorful CEO gives us the high concept vision of Xbox 360's future.

Q: There has been some discussion about the visual difference between the games shown at the Sony conference, and the games shown at the Microsoft conference. What kind of kits are you working from, and were the games we saw working at full capacity?

The games we showed were working off alpha test kits using a PC graphics ship, not the actual graphics chip from our system. The games are running at about 30% of their actual capability. Our dev kits are still only in the alpha stage, and we have not delivered beta kits yet. The final kits will ship to developers in July.

We had to show real stuff because we're at that point where we're really close. If we had shown conceptual movies like Sony did then people would really be wondering where we're coming from. Since we're this close to launch, we had to use real kits and real gameplay.

              I agree.

Thing is, Sony is really good at hype. They know there are people out there that will eat whatever they say. That's why they gave those movie presentations instead.

XBOX360, I left feeling very dissappointed, so did many others. If this is what they have to offer, I suggest they go back and start over. Disclaimer about running at 25% on hardware this late in the game is unforgiveable. Top Spin 2, looks like Top Spin 1, Call of Duty 2 could be done on XBOX. Games still running on developement kits with fans inside the pedestal to keep it cool. I've been going to E3 for 10 years and I could have not been more dissapointed in a system thats supposed to be next gen. At this point like me and many others that saw XBOX360 now know why the disclaimer was given, it truly doesn't look like next gen.

So you're mad because they showed it with a disclaimer? Don't most games at e3 have disclaimers saying that they aren't done?

this is not about a systems war to me, its about what I saw, I'm not a HALO fan so if they laugh they laugh. It was unimpressive to say the least. Its too late in the game to be running off dev kits. E3 is the showcase for NA, and the release is approaching fast. XBOX360 should have been playable from the X360.

No I'm not mad, I'm dissappointed, we were told that X360 would be playable. I can understand if microsoft had work in progress for software, that is completely understandable. I don't want a work in progress for your system(hardware). November will be here soon enough and to be playing a game off a dev kit, is not cool to me. I'm vacating this conversation. I stated my position and will leave it at that.

Who cares if the 360 console and games aren't ready right now. Like Xbox said themeselves, they don't develop games for E3, they develop them for the day of release.

                              Gears of War Detailed Impressions

We are just cogs in Epic's brilliant, beautiful machine.

                              Gamespot Impressions too.

We'll go out on a limb and call this the most exciting-looking Xbox 360 exclusive on the horizon. Epic Games' sci-fi tactical shooter looks hot. We even got to play an early build of it.

After seeing the specs for each system and they are both pretty good. I will be chosing the PS3, not because of graphics. I believe this is more than a graphics issue, this is a media center issue for me. I look at the possibilities I get with the PS3 especially after seeing the vision in which they are going. I stood in a line yesterday to see the vision of the PS3 with thousand of patrons at E3. It is there vision that sells me on the PS3. I believe this system cycle the PS3 that is will last much longer than you guys think. I believe Sony is looking at a 7 to 8 year cycle. If they release there vision to the public you will see, how the Change concept that they are elluding to. The cell technology will be in many appliances as you guys know and the beauty of this is when you buy an IBM/Toshiba/Sony product with the cell chip installed it increase the power of the PS3.

I love the fact that its a future machine and not a right now machine. I know bluray is not a standard but it has enough muscle behind it that I'm not worrying about the whole beta problem prior to this. All the memory slots = a plus HD Slot = a plus Wi Fi = a plus 6 USB ports = a Plus, and the ungodly amounts of media drives it can read = outstanding. I also love the fact that if I wanted to watch a movie in 32:9 which I'm really considering I all ready have a 60" widescreen HDTV 720 and I do have the room to put another 50" next to it to watch a movie in pure bliss.

The pics you see on the internet about the PS3 size doesn't do it justice. Its about the same size of the PS2 and that black one is beautiful. I'm past the just the game system when it comes to this medium this is about convergence to me and the PS3 to this point offers the most convergence.
