Because it just reminded me of all the problems people had with the oiginal xbox controllers. Anyway, I don't want to start an argument so I'll leave it at that.

I would hope not.... the increased resolution in textures should be a reason that much space is necessary...

I'm sure they can use the space on dual layered dvd's to make great looking games. It really just seem like sony is making these things so huge for no reason.

I don't know if this has already been brought to attention, but Blu-ray discs hold 54gb (which Sony is using) while a dual layered dvd holds only 9gb (which MS is using). In my mind, this could be huge! 9 times as much storage space; just think what developers could put in the games that wasn't possible before, like 100 man rosters in NCAA. The possiblities seem endless. Just my 2 cents.

I don't think that this is a huge edge for Sony as far as GAMES are concerned. It might be by the end of the gen but I don't see many 10 GB games coming out any time soon. I have no doubt that 100 man NCAA rosters would fit on a DVD. I think the reason that we didn't see them last gen is that it would have made saves take up too much space on a memory card.

Now as to people buying PS3s for a Blu-Ray movie player that effect remains to bee seen. It could be a big edge for Saony.

Well, it's not for "no reason." It's b/c they're pushing their media, which makes sense. It's the same thing they're doing for the PSP (UMD) and Apple is doing with iTunes.

The mindset is, if you can do it well enough and lead, you pretty much own the market.

This may be out there, but imagine if Blu-Ray is so popular it takes over the world! Sony's at the forefront of that... and that's the plan.

Is MS really only going dual-layered DVD...? That's pretty shocking. It would make for a more media rich experience on the PS3, if utilized properly...

Did I say that I didn't get why people like it? I'm saying that people are saying "it's just a controller, get over it" yet when the xbox first came out, they complained about the controller. Not necessarily anybody in this thread but people on other forums too.

So you were annoyed when others complained about the XBOX controller. How does it make it any better that you are complaining about the Sony controller?

Pared, you should win an award for Avatar of the Year (she is so fine). Back to the topic, I'm very impressed not only with PS3's power, but also all the extra features that come standard with the system (built in wi-fi? 7 wireless controllers? 6 USB ports? 54GB Blu-Ray DVD technology? Wow). The only fear I have is that this system will exceed the $300 mark (I don't want to pay more than $300! Damnit!). The only thing that has disapointed me about the PS3 is the clock speed of its Cell processor only being 3.2 Ghz- the same speed as the X360 CPU. Now, of course I understand that the Cell chip is said to be 2x more powerful than the X360 CPU, but I expected the clock speed to be in the 4 Ghz range. Who knows, maybe they'll upgrade it similar to how MS upgraded their once 600 Mhz CPU to 733 Mhz on the Xbox?

I hope your joking, this system might top $600, you might need to think about a new system, but Sony does got to name the price.

Anybody else not liking how the next gen systems are going wireless? I don't want to have to worry if my controller needs recharging. Not to mention the added cost of buying batteries for it. What's all that about.

Hopefully they'll make a USB option in that department.

You can get rechargeable batteries. Have you ever owned a wireless controller? Believe me, they're well worth it.
