    Xbox 360 Pricing Announced

Microsoft Sets Price for Xbox 360 Versions
    Alex Pham
Microsoft Corp. said its next-generation Xbox 360 game console would cost $299 to $399 when the device is launched this holiday season.

The $299 version will come with a wired controller, but will not have the 20-gigabyte hard-disc drive, wireless controller, headset, Ethernet cable and wireless television remote control included in the $399 version.

Sony Corp., which said it would launch PlayStation 3 in the spring, has not released a price for its new console.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

    $299.99 - Wired Controller.

$399.99 - 20gb HDD, wireless controller, headset, ethernet cable, and remote.

Blah... 2 SKU's is a dumb idea. The HDD will probally see the same fate as the PS2 one now.

Yeah, I think that seals the deal that developers aren't going to use the HDD for games. Not required, means why bother.

Wow, 399 for the top system. I can already see budgeting problems in the next three months. Maybe a temporary second job.

            Hmm..

This just in from Major Nelson on skype:

The Cheapest price for Xbox will have a 20 GB HD and a wireless controller. You cant expect to log onto Xbox Live without a hard drive. Xbox Live is one of the pivotal features of the Xbox 360 console. Also we announced the wireless controller will be standard as the wired controller that you saw in pictures is used for security purposes in gaming conventions and public viewing. LA Times reporting is wrong, I will post about this on my blog later on in the day.

Well, Major Nelson would know more than us, or LA Times, so I'll take his word for it.

It wouldn't make any sense for the 360 to ship w/out a HDD. Microsoft's whole plan with XBL being active out of the box for free and their plan for microtransactions and downloadable content would be crippled greatly if it didn't have a storage medium out of the box. I hate memory cards with a passion and have been spoiled by the HDD in the original XBOX. Hopefully the Times is wrong, because it would hurt MSFT's XBL plan greatly.

The Major Nelson thing is bogus, posted by a person about to get banned in the Teamxbox forums.

I was going to say, I went to his website, and nothing there, not even on his comments section.

After reading what each one will come with, it kinda makes sense, well sort of.

"The Xbox 360 core system -- priced at $299.99 in the United States, ?299.99 in Europe and £209.99 in the U.K. -- will come with the console, a wired controller, faceplate, standard audio-visual cable and an Xbox Live Silver membership. An Xbox Live Silver membership allows you to create a user id, download game content, access the Xbox 360 marketplace and gives Live users the ability to chat with friends."

"The Xbox 360 fully-loaded system -- priced at $399.99 in the United States, ?399.99 in Europe and £279.99 in the U.K. -- will come complete with the console, a wireless controller, a 20GB detachable hard drive, a faceplate, headset, component HD audio-visual cables, an Ethernet cable, Xbox Live Silver membership and, for a limited time, an Xbox 360 media remote."

I'll be getting the $399 version, because it's the best deal, and mainly because I want to play Oblivion. Who knows how much the HDD will be separate.

                            this can not be true

says it comes standard with a 20 GB harddrive.

NO WAY MS doesnt ship with a harddrive

It's true. Every videogame website on the net is reporting it.

                              Here's the IGN article.
