My 360 died yesterday btw, f- it. Don't think I'll bother with another. This will be the 4th one since launch that had to be repaired. All the dvd drives have died.

    Bring on the Wii.
And I'm sure your Samsung LCD wasn't $400 either. My Sony HDTV has a 2 year warranty from Sony, but it was also over 2K.

Let me rephrase, fine me a product under $500, or using the PS3 for an example, under $600 with longer than 90 days.

Heh, this is about how I felt back in June. There's really nothing I can say to cheer you up on this situation since I can relate to it. I've been there and I remember not wanting anyone to bother me about this BS for a while. But I just want to tell you that I personally found it best for me to find ways to settle down and let some time pass before I talk to MS about what to do with my dead Xbox 360, or things could've gotten ugly talking with them. It's a good idea to find some things away from gaming you think is fun to do that allows you to clear your mind of the situation for a few days or even a few weeks before calling MS back.

I also want to ask you one thing. How much did MS say you had to pay to have your X360 repaired when you talked to them on the phone? Those punks stuck me for $130. At any rate, my dead X360 is finally on it's way to them.

No, what I mean is, every system launch has been like this since cd rom systems came out, so not buying a warranty, you were playing with fire. Not a bash, just now you are mad that your system is dead and don't want to pay to have it fixed.

If you went and bought a TV and it died in 10 months, you'd have to pay to have it fixed without a warranty, it's the way electronics go.

They told me $139.00. I am glad there is at least somebody here who can relate how I feel. It's a shame I had to drop out of 2 leagues, and I was really enjoying NCAA and Madden.

I am not some Sony fanboy.. because I have never wanted or owned a PS2.

Well I bought a 56" HDTV in January. That hasn't crapped out on me..Actually still going strong and looking great.
I guess it is meeting my expectations.

I know EG, it's my fault for not forking over more money to buy the warranty. I played with fire and got burnt.

Damn me.. for thinking I was buying a quality product.

Exactly. Electronic equipment is always and will always be hit or miss It's the nature of the beast. I bought an extended 5 year warranty (about $450) on my DLP for this exact reason. It was the first time I've ever bought an extended warranty on anything because I spent so much $$$ on the TV. Now I'm sitting here thinking "Damn, I just blew $500 on a warranty that hasn't even been used and might never be.". I essentially took a match to $450 and burnt it. Such is life.

It is a quality product as evidenced by the many that bought launch systems and haven't had a problem. It's just that you got unlucky and were one of the one's who ran into problems (last reports were less than 5% of all 360's had problems). It sucks and I understand your frustration, but like you said, you played with fire and you got burnt.

My opinion is that you should call MS and complain. If they don't give you what you want, call later and complain again. Repeat until you finally talk to someone willing to do what you want. It might work, but will take some pushing/prodding from you.

My only problem in what you said is .. the 5% reports.

                  According to who? M$?

It is in M$ best interest to keep the reported numbers within the industry standard. Just yesteday someone else in the league I was in 360 3 red-lighted him.

IMO. When you have one of your Telephone support menu options - before you talk to an actual person... If you are calling because you have experienced 3 red lights... do this ... etc. etc.

You are letting me know this is not a just a little problem.

                  I am done ranting.... now.

I've read the 5% number in a number of different places - although I have no idea where these media outlets got the number from. It's conceivable that 5% is the right number. Think about the number of consoles sold compared to that 5%. If they've sold 5 Million units (which I think is close to being accurate), 5% is then 250,000 units that went bad.

Yep, my luck is going great lately, turned it on yesterday, dead. It went to the dashboard, locked up. Then I couldn't get it to turn back on, kept getting the 3 red lights. I did that code thing that Backbreaker posted and mine was general hardware failure. I know it didn't overheat, because for one, I just turned it on, for 2 it was sitting in a great ventilated area and never really got hot.

Luckily I got the Gamestop warranty, so I was back playing my 360 an hour later. Not bad. I have a new warranty until September of 07 now.

                                General Hardware Failure. Interesting.

See, that's my problem. I got MS's extended warranty for $50. I don't even recall how long it was (got the paperwork at home). The Gamestop one is so much better. Just drive down the street and get a new one. I wish I could get the Gamestop warranty now. I don't think I can as I didn't buy my 360 there, but I have no idea.
