I agree. A game like this doesn't seem to need it. Unless it introduced a very distinctive multi-player game, I'd say the SP game itself will be more than fine.

I love the atmosphere and overall creepy feel this game is projecting.

BioShock Exclusive Q&A - Story, Emergent Gameplay, and Optimizing for the Xbox 360 and PC

Irrational has made a name for itself by creating highly open-ended games that combine elements of action, role-playing, and stealth, among other things. The studio is now hard at work on its upcoming hybrid action game, BioShock, which will place players in the ruins of an undersea settlement in the mid-20th century. According to the game's story, the settlement, known as Rapture, was supposed to be a social paradise where the strongest, smartest, and most beautiful members of society went off to live under the ocean, free of strife (and all that pesky government regulation). Everything seemed to be going well, until the inhabitants of the undersea city discovered the secret of genetic manipulation through a substance called "adam," which the inhabitants began to use to augment their already-peak physiques and minds.

The result was a disaster that has ruined the city, turned many of its inhabitants into homicidal, mutant monsters known as "splicers," and left behind a bizarre, three-part ecology in which recycled genetic materials are sought out by splicers and harvested from the corpses of Rapture by young gatherers known as "little sisters," who are guarded by powerful soldiers known as "big daddies." The game will let players explore the city in the wake of its crisis, pick up genetic enhancements for themselves to grant them mutant powers, and use enhancements for their weapons to defend themselves using first-person shooter gameplay. Irrational general manager Ken Levine explains.

Man, I love the look of this game. It should make for one heck of a singleplayer experience.

                    BioShock: Irrational Games Interview

Kikizo: Can you tell us more about this interesting power-up system you have developed?

Joe F: We call these plasmids, they're basically like personal mutation - the society found ways to mutate themselves to make themselves smarter, brighter, faster - and so you've got all these different tools - pyrokinesis which is your ability to cause fire, we also have a similar ability for incineration, but instead of throwing fireballs you actually cause items to envelope in fire, and they will catch other people and other items on fire. We have this security beacon that tricks the security system into thinking other enemies or AI entities are you... there's a whole diverse range of powers, that affect your ability to use weapons, that affect your ability to manipulate the environment, and that allow you to directly assault the other AIs.

Joe M: My favourite plasmid is called mimic, and you can mimic the noises that the little girl makes, which makes a big brother think you're one of them, so he will protect you and if anyone attacks you, he'll **** them up. Everything is a threat and an opportunity.

The headline says it all: BioShock's street date is August 21st. That's a Tuesday, for all you who might be planning your "sick" days in advance.

Is it wrong that I was expecting the character to break out the wrench and beat the Adam out of the Little Sister?

                            Thanks as always.

Two thumbs down from me though.

The opposite for me. My jaw literally dropped. August cannot come soon enough.

                                Really..?

This game looks incredible to me. I'm watching the low-res vids, and the overall creepy feel they are pulling off is impressive. The little sister spitting that stuff up is disgusting though. I'm really looking forward to learning more about the story and playing this game.
