I don't think the deal is offered anymore. I bought it on Black Friday last year at Office Depot for $799 with $300 in rebates (1 from OD for $100 and the other from Olevia $200).

The set is sick no dead pixels super high contrast and no blurring which I would easily notice. It runs 480i, 480p, 720p. 1080i. It has a contrast ratio of 1600:1 the link says the set is 9ms. They changed the specs cause my set is 8ms, still anything under 12ms and your good for gaming.

The speakers are loud and have good low bass. I am very pleased with the quality of this product. And get this my set comes with a 1 year onsite warranty, beat that Sony j/k .

It's rumoured to run at up to 1080p.
The contrast ratio is also promised to be at around 100,000:1. In Laymans turms that's the ratio of contrast between black and white meaning that the black is incredibly black. I believe, right now, Plasma and LCD run at about 3000:1.
In the demo IGN saw they said that it was eary how the picture jumps out at you.

And since they can build the TV's using old printer heads (no joke) experts believe that when they are being massed produced you'll be able to get a 50" flatscreen TV for approx. $500 US.

Sony is also trying to develop something similar called FED but it's years away.
SED is supposed to hit the market sometime this year but could be as late as early 2007.

Apoc and Money99 what's even worse is the dude at Office Depot told me he bought the same set on Black Friday and got my deal plus 10% off for being a Office Depot employee. So his set cost him $420.

What's even funnier is that I felt he was trying to pawn the set on me and I started getting a little suspicious so he said look you got 2 weeks if you don't like it bring it back and we'll refund your money.

Let's just say I never took him up on the offer.

Awesome. The IGN article was pretty convincing. It sounds like this SED tec is gonna take off.

Yeah, it sounds like everyone in the industry is really looking forward to this.
Here's a couple of quotes from an 'expert' who got to witness SED at a recent trade show:

Of course, the SED displays were so much better than anything else at the show, PQ wise, that they overshadowed everything that followed afterwards. They should have had a big warning - make sure you see this at the end of the show, because it makes everything else look like crap...
He also added that it was way better when compared to Pioneer's new technology FHD1.

but I did see the FHD1 again after the Toshiba SED demo and it was still awsome (I remember thinking how far it still has to go to reach SED quality, but that it was still awsome in its own rights). I would buy one today if I could.
I don't think anyone's going to go wrong by purchasing a Plasma, LCD or HD CST. It's not like they're crap or anything.
But I'm at least another 5 years away from buying another TV so by then I might be able to buy an SED for a lower price than the other kinds.

Wow! Watching this TV in a pitch black room would be sick as hell! That's impressive.

Yeah, I read that if you watch a movie in the dark you won't be able to see the black bars on the top or bottom at all. He said it's like the movie is jumping off your wall.

And I believe that the SED monitor that was on display had a contrast of "merely" 10,000:1. When the TV's are produced for consumers they're supposed to be at 100,000:1.

The only way to watch HDTV, IMO. The best place to have your set is in a light controlled room if possible.

So does this mean fall in Japan and Spring 07 for US? That would ge good if so. Maybe then the price will be somewhat lower and I could actually afford to grab one up.
Lots of factors I will weigh though. 1: Will it be "that much better" than 360 to warrant it or 2: Will the exclusives be that good to warrant it.

                              We'll see...

Most of us were already expecting it this holiday season anyway. I think Sony will be just fine as long as they don't delay the PS3 into 2007. They also need Blu)Ray to catch on this summer and gain some popularity among the early adopting consumer community.
If they are releasing the system in stages like years past( Japan first, US second, Europe third) then we may not see the system until 2007.
