I agree. But I wonder if the 360 has forced Sony to rush this out causing them to not have their house in order.

I'm not a devout Xbox guy or Sony guy. I just want the best bang for my buck. Although I'm pretty tapped right now. I can't see myself affording either system for at least two more years. Maybe that's a good thing because by then I'll know exactly what each machine is capable of and which has the best library.

If anything was rushed, it was the 360. This has been the scheduled relase of the ps3 for a while now. They are just saying it will be out on time............

360 release wasn't rushed. It's getting to the point where people talk about the 360 release like the war in Iraq. Its not that bad.

Sony was scheduled to release the PS3 in Japan this spring so it is a significant delay for them.

I promise that PS3 will have unforeseen hardware problems just as the 360 had. It goes with the territory of releasing a new high tech product.

Someone mentioned Sony fans coming out of the woodwork... I agree, it's funny, but this sort of thing (above) amazes me more...

Yesterday's statement is NOTHING more than the announcement of a delay! Why can people not see that? Everyone's wooping for joy when in fact Sony has given us next to nothing new in terms of facts! LOL

How quickly people forget that from E3 2005 until yesterday, Sony were INSISTING the PS3 would release somewhere in the world in spring 2006. Now they turn around and tell us the final dev kits won't even go out until June 2006.

Heelfan - the only reason you think this has been the release schedule for a while now is because like most people, you don't believe a Sony tells you.

I personally hope it's worth the wait and if it wipes the floor with the 360, then GREAT because I'm a consumer and I can go out and buy a PS3. I just wish people wouldn't bite every time Sony use smoke and mirrors and hype to distract everyone... Or in this case disguise the announcement of a delay.

I mean is there any new info (not relating to the delay) in there? Not really.

I'm skeptical about the "million consoles a month" goal. I don't see how Sony can bypass the same manufacturing hiccups that MS is going through. That's just how it goes for new technology. There's no way that the Cell chips, RSX chips, and Blu-Ray drives will all be flawlessly mass produced enough to churn out a million units every month. We'll have to see.

At a cost of $900.00 per console unit, Sony will losing about 450 million per month IF they manufacture 1,000,000 per month. This is more dishonest hype from Sony.

It was never official that it would cost $900 per console so we still don't know that.

Sony said they could produce up to 1 million consoles a month, and they hope to ship 6 million consoles by March 2007.

I'm not sure if it will cost them that much but I think this is going to be quite a bit more expensive than the 360 Premium bundle. I think a $500 US price tag is the very least it will cost.

On IGN they also mentioned that the Blu-Ray disc drive will be fairly slow. If 128MB of data needs to be loaded it up it will take 29 seconds. I don't know how many people will be happy with that length of load time.
But IGN did say that as of now the disc drive is a 1x speed. They could improve that to 2x or even 4x by the release date.

Thats only if you thought it was coming in the spring... To me all he confirmed is what I already knew, its coming this fall.

sony had said it was spring 06, and that it was on schedule. their website also had a promo of a ps3 with the words "spring 06" on it, so this is about a half year delay....

If they manufacture 1 million per month the costs are going to be very very high. Sony is going to be forced to spend far more than they did with the PS2 and they are still going to lose market share. They are rushing the launch and they STILL have not sent the development kits yet! Keep in mind that Sony almost always over promises and usually under delivers.

MS didnt send their final kits until July.
