sony had said it was spring 06, and that it was on schedule. their website also had a promo of a ps3 with the words "spring 06" on it, so this is about a half year delay....

Again thats only if you believed Sony about the spring release to begin with...I never bought that, I always thought it would come out in the fall...Call it what you want, but since I never expected it in the spring (despite what Sony said) I don't consider it a delay... Again this is MY OPINION

I don't get the delay aspect. Only delay is in Japan. The PS3 was always supposed to come out in the fall in USA. Maybe I'm wrong.

Thats what I thought, it got delayed in Japan (no spring) but we're still on time... Fall was always the most realistic bet, I held out for spring at one point but it became painfully obvious that it wouldn't happen.

I understand that's your opinion, but you stated that sony squashed those delay rumors. It's not about what you or I believed but rather that sony said spring '06 so I was just saying that they did not squash the delay rumors but rather confirmed the rumors. anyways this is petty of us.... atleast finally they spit out some news....

So what if a developer games with the assumption of a HDD present and find out that only a % of them will have one present? I think one will come standard like he said.

i don't think it matters if it is standard or not. if it is standard, then you will estimately pay 100 bucks extra then the ps3 would normally cost alone. if it doesn't come standard, then you pay 100 bucks extra for add on HD. no big deal, atleast they are implementing the HD this time.

Is anyone surprised? I think that its only a delay to the Japanese market, not US. I don't think anyone could have reasonably thought the system would be in the US this spring.

sorry if i came out sounding like im trying to bash them.... i was merely stating the fact that they confirmed delay rumors and not squashed them. they said spring '06, they did not say for japan or us.... i'm not going by what u or other people think or assume that it wasn't going to be spring.... i was going by what sony said so it is considered a delay.... no big deal cause almost every piece of tech has some delays too it.....

I believe that the 360 was pushed out the door, to get ahead of Sony. Nothing wrong with it, just business.

i don't know about bad marketing since it is selling out everyone except japan... poor production maybe, but every launch system has shortages... psp, ds, dreamcast, ps2.... ps3 is guaranteed to have shortages. im so sure of it im pre-ordereding 10 minimum to drive up ebay costs!

March 14, 2006 - Ken Kutaragi, PlayStation Master and keeper of big news has announced at the PS meeting today that the PlayStation 3 will be launching in early November worldwide for the North American, Asian, and European territories.



"A completely simultaneous launch is physically impossible," Kutaragi said, "but we believe we'll be able ship to users throughout the world around this time."

Sony's production line is set to pump out one million units per month to meet demand, with a total of six million units to be produced in Fiscal Year 2006 (through March 2007) alone. Production numbers are higher for PS1 and PS2 in their initial years.

Sony Launches world wide in November at best case scenerio $425.

Microsoft counters by dropping the price of the 360 to $299 for a Premium, $199 for a core.

If you don't have either system which system are you gonna buy?

Also, the extra cost of blue-ray games was not brought up. Are we expecting a $59 price tag per game?

Dude, PS3 games aren't going to be more expensive than 360's. $60 is more than a fair price considering how bad-*** the PS3 games are gonna be.

I am thinking about waiting until PS3 drops to make sure I get the best system for me. If the PS3 comes out at $500 but it's the superior system, then the price won't matter one bit.

Here's what I know....Fact: Bluray movies are going to retail at 10-15 dollars more than regular DVDs. If thats the case why would Bluray games be any different?

I disagree. Sony has had plenty of time to put together accurate number estimates. MS launch was poorly planned and it showed. They couldn't supply the demand for the 360 and I think that bruise will still show once the PS3 hits. One million a month? That is money in the bank. MS would have been better off launching this summer and giving themselves more time to make more units and work out the kinks.
