Based on the fact that you will need a hard drive to play games, which may or may not be included, it appears as though Sony sees this as more of a blu-ray player that happens to play games instead of the other way around. This is opposite of what Microsoft did with the original xbox with having to have the remote for dvd playback. Kinda weird, but I will be pre-ordering one regardless.

Safest bet seems to be preorder one now and decide to sell it or keep it later as news comes out.

I guess the PS3 is alot easier to program for than originally thought. It is supposed to be much better than the PS2 although the XBox 360 is supposed to be easy as well.

We are looking at 499 price point people. Thats 499 before buying a game, extra controller or other accessories. I could easily see people paying 700 bucks at launch. What will be interesting will be if people are willing to spend that much or if people consider that to be too expensive.

I expect $499 as well, but I don't consider that expensive considering whats in the box.

I guess it depends on the individual consumer...Speaking as a PSP owner who spent well over $600 on launch day... $700-$800 for PS3 and some games really doesn't bother me much at all... Of course opinions will differ

How in God's name did you spend over $600 for the PSP? It was 250 games were 40. Did you buy every game for kicks or something?

I expect to spend almost a grand on the PS3, depending on whats available at launch.

I would think a large part of the consumer(s) are soccer mom and dads. I would think the price point is important to those folks. If the Revolution comes out and is under $300, vs $499 for PS3, I would think soccer mom and dads go for the less expensive option, plus, mom and dad can dl games they played 20 years ago on the Revolution. I really see the Revolution as the dark horse, here.

It's great to have competition.
