Exactly the reason why if I'm not lucky enough to secure a preorder for a launch console, I'm not really sure how far I'll go to get one before Christmas... The football games have passed us, MLB the Show along with most of those other huge titles won't be here till March at the earliest. I'm itching for preorder info, but it's certainly not the launch lineup that's got me excited. Smackdown vs. Raw was actually the one game I was stoked about until it got scratched until next year.

Analyst: PS3 price drop a sign of weakness
US-based analyst reacts to new price for 20GB PlayStation 3 in Japan; calls it "a questionable business decision."

Industry analyst Mike Wallace issued an investor memo today reacting to news that Sony intended to drop the price of the low-end, 20GB PlayStation 3 in Japan.
Wallace, who covers the game industry for UBS Securities, called the move "a questionable business decision and a sign of weakness" on the part of Sony.
Stating that Sony said it made the move "in response to consumer complaints about the console's price," Wallace paints the decision as window dressing at most.
"This price cut is only on the 20GB version of the PS3 in Japan, which in our view is not significant given that the US is the key market for the PS3," Wallace said in the memo.
He emphasized that even at the lower price point, the model remains more expensive than either the Xbox 360 or Wii in Japan, and he goes on to further dilute the impact of the price drop by reiterating his view that the 60GB PS3 model is likely to be the more popular one in Japan, regardless of pricing.
PlayStation boss Ken Kutaragi said yesterday that in Japan, Sony would cut the price of the lower-end PS3 (with the 20GB hard drive) to 49,980 yen (US$429) from 60,000 yen (US$515).Comment

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
it would be great if they dropped the price for the premium model along w/ the crippled version. i think they said they ratio between the 2 will be 80% premium to 20% for the core, so the price drop will not affect that many.....Comment

Well the 1up guys on their Podcast today who are at TGS are pretty down on Sony's showing again with 1 or 2 exceptions. They feel that Sony is concentrating on the US market and will let Nintendo have the J market. and they feel Sony really didn't do enough to convince them that the PS3 is all that.Comment

It's funny how the Wii gets praised for their system when all it is is slightly upgraded graphics with a gimmicky controller which will get old real quick. If Sony showed up with graphics like the Wii and a weird controller it would be considered a disaster. From what I have seen it is obvious what the more powerful system is and future games will only get better. I don't get a system just for the launch games I look more forward to what lies ahead like MLB The Show, Winning Eleven, Oblivion and many more."If you don't have anything good to say, say it often"- Ed the sockComment

Yes if Nintendo released a 600.00 system with the graphics they have they would get blasted, but they are not. As they've stated, for them it's about games not horsepower.
Sony hasn't much of anything smart so far (except the price drop in Japan, but that doesn't help us). 2 game shows so far and both have been reported to be lackluster at best.
When the price drops I will get one. In any case how the heck did the Wii get into the PS3 conversation?Joshua:

What? Comparing a system releasing for 500.00 - 600.00 to one at 250.00 isn't very realistic.

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
How is the Wii targeted at non-gamers? You think Zelda is a game made for "non-gamers" or a game like Red Steel is made for kids? And enlighten me, what is a "non-gamer"? Do you have to like shooters and sports games to be a "gamer"? I don't mean to turn a Playstation thread into a Wii thread, but your assessment of the upcoming consoles this year certainly doesn't demonstrate much thought on your part.Comment

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
The way the those games will be played (Wii Remote) is basically for non-gamers and by the way Nintendo said they are targeting non-gamers not me so do a little reading, so basically they are throwing in the towel compared to the PS3 and 360. People knock the PS3 for being more than games to me that is a plus as it is optional to play movies, cd's and even going online if games is all people want to play just do that don't bother with the other stuff as the playstation has always been about games and if not then what the hell have I been playing the last 5 years.Comment

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
They're targeting non-gamers and gamers alike, not just non-gamers. Just because they're controller may appeal to people who do not traditionally play games does not mean it won't appeal to people who have been playing videogames since pong. Need I remind you that the Wii will be able to play every Nintendo game ever made. Saying the Wii is strictly for non-gamers is an untrue statement."If you don't have anything good to say, say it often"- Ed the sockComment
