When I was at Gamestop, the clerk there told me that they were warned that they can't place any PS3 discs in the sleeves that they keep behind the counter when they gut a game. The reason why is that I guess the BluRay discs scratch very easily, and the slightest scratches cause the games not too work.

Can anyone confirm this that owns a stand alone BR player or have heard something similar with the PS3 games.

doubtful. In theory, yes, bluray discs are affected by scratches since the data is closer to the surface. However, bluray is required to have scratch resistant coating as a standard. This supposedly will make it more resistant to scratches than DVD's are now.

Releasing a format meant to become the new standard that is ruined by fingerprints or tiny scratches would be ********. Even if the mega protection hype is wrong, like the statements that you can use brilo pads or screwdrivers to scratch bluray disks and they still work, the bluray will at least be as scratch resistant as DVD's are now.

someone posted a link a few days back about select circuit city's having some kind of release party for the ps3 and having like 100 avail for purchase the 16th. was this bogus? any word if this is still on?

the funny thing is, they will be like 100 or more people there standing online, and only 26 being sold, I hope half the people out there who stand online will know this, or I feel real bad.
