I agree, but could you imagine that scene? 20-50 people rushing a walmart. Pandemonium. The stores just need to set it up differently. Maybe set up a call in line for reservations. First however many that call in and can verify with a credit card or whatever get a system.

For people who think it's just outrageous that someone sells something for 5x or 10x it's sell value, no one is forcing you to buy... and if you really wanted one, then why wasn't your @ss sitting in the Circuit City parking lot starting last Tuesday?Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

If WW3 does not break out in an hour and 30 minutes, I will be very surprised.

Yeah exactly, i offered my friends tickets for the scUM @ OSU game to the Alumni here as he was trying to sell them for about $1000. I had some inquiries but one guy emailed me 'YOU ARE SCUM, DON'T EVER EMAIL ME OR THE OTHER ALUMNI AGAIN!". Uhh hello, was my friend supposed to sell the tickets for face value? And besides, those prices are less than ebay. Don't shoot the messenger, which was me, or in the case of the PS3, Ebay and craigslist. It completely is supply vs demand.

Just curious, when did the "camp out for a game console" start occurring?

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
I know what you mean Candy, but the reality is that some of those people grew up, got great jobs, and decided that it's better to pay 2k to get an impossible to find system on day one from the comfort of their dektop than hang out in front of a store like they did when they were highschoolers or broke college students. Just think, Jermaine O'Neal was fined 5K for wearing a wristband in the wrong position. Do you honestly think Jermaine would hesitate for one moment to spend 3k on the most anticipated videogame hardware in console history that he and his kids are dying to have? If not just to brag to his fellow rich freinds? Or any Athelete/Entertainer/Dopeman to whom money is no object?
Every winning bid is not going to be 5000+...but a lucky few will get major dough out of this.
When game companies started designing systems that were too tough to manufacture in mass. I worked at EB during the DC launch and their were 2 guys who camped...and that was from about 7:00 AM on that same day..store opened at 09:00. So I would say DC started the trend, and it really kicked off with the PS2, which was also extremely short of demand.Last edited by HMcCoy; 11-17-2006, 12:44 AM.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

What a world we live in when Kobe gives the 4 guys on TNT 4 PS3's when the rest of the world is fighting over them.
I agree it's supply vs demand, I just don't put myself in that catagory of paying 3-5 times more than face value for anything.
And for stores selling the limited number of PS3's, a lottery sytems would work. It works for rock concerts.
I remember getting up for rock concerts at 3 or 4 in the morning to be near the front of the line when tickets opened at 10 am. 10 years ago, Ticket Master set up a lottery system for Pearl Jam. I thought that worked real well. Of course, I drew a good number. I was 10th in line and the first night already sold out. We got good seats for the next night.Last edited by roadman; 11-17-2006, 12:24 AM.Comment

I'm sure a lottery system would ignite some small anger issues.

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
Probably, but it's a fair system, I feel.
If say a Wal-Mart is selling 10 at midnight, have signs stating line-up is at 11:15pm, and it's not a first come, first serve basis, but a lottery system will be in place.
If people know about that upfront, I think it's a fair system. That prevents people from camping out 2-3 days in advance.Comment

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
That's what they need to do. Another thing I think is that once a store knows that they have say 20 systems for sale at launch and if there are campers outside, shoot, make the first 20 campers form a line inside the store with the security guard sitting there watching them till the morning when they can sell the darn thing. That way there is no violence occurs and people outside know that there are no more systems and time to go home.Comment

I think Chippered had the best idea...phone reservations. Just like the "5th caller" contests on the radio. No physical conflicts whatsoever.
Bottom line is that these game companies should do a better job planning these launches..flat out.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

It will take an incident of someone getting hurt seriously for them to fix this.Comment

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
I really hope the parking lots are well lit and there are a couple security guards at the entrance of the stores, otherwise some people's launch plan could be to wait outside the store for the constant stream of free PS3s.
