Amazon to sell Wii on Sunday
[UPDATE] Online retailer expects quick sellout of unbundled consoles, says it has no PlayStation 3 systems to offer at launch.

[UPDATE] Online retailer expects quick sellout of unbundled consoles, says it has no PlayStation 3 systems to offer at launch.

"As for Amazon's PlayStation 3 launch plans, Sony fans can cross the retailer off their lists. The site hasn't taken pre-orders for the system, and the representative confirmed that it didn't have any in stock to make available at the system's official launch tomorrow."

Report: Sony losing hundreds on each PS3

iSuppli breakdown pegs cost of manufacturing $499 20GB console at $805, $599 60GB console at $840.

When the Xbox 360 went on sale last year, BusinessWeek commissioned tech researcher iSuppli to take apart the console and estimate how much it cost to manufacture. The firm concluded that, including all pack-in accessories (hard drive, controller, cables, and so on), each premium 360 set Microsoft back some $126. Before labor, just the parts it took to make the console cost $470--$71 more than the full-fledged system's $399 price tag.

This week, iSuppli conducted a similar cost-analysis study of the PlayStation 3--with even more shocking results. According to the study, the hardware for the 20-gigabyte PS3 costs $805.85 alone--$306.85 more than the stated list price of $499. The 60GB model hardware costs $840.35, $241.35 more than the $599 sticker price Sony announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo earlier this year. (Note: Sony did not announce price points of $499.99 and $599.99 at E3, although some retailers list the consoles' prices as such.)

Neither of the iSuppli estimates includes the cost of the A/V cables, power cord, or Sixaxis controller that come bundled with both models of the PS3. The initial launch shipment will also come with a Blu-ray disc copy of the Will Ferrell comedy Talledega Nights. "The size of Sony's loss per unit is remarkable, even for the videogame console business," read the iSuppli report.

However, despite the steep price, iSuppli still thinks the PS3 delivers plenty of bang for a buyer's buck. "The reason why the PlayStation 3 is so costly to produce is because it has incredible processing power," said Andrew Rassweiler, teardown services manager and senior analyst for iSuppli. "If someone had shown me the PlayStation 3 motherboard from afar without telling me what it was, I would have assumed it was for a network switch or an enterprise server."

Though it had no breakdown of the Wii, this week's iSuppli study did comment on the cost of another next-gen console. Thanks to streamlined processes and ample component supplies, iSuppli estimates that Microsoft now makes $75.70 per Xbox 360 console.

I was thinking about putting it on there but leaving it up til maybe Dec 15th, or should I put an actual pic of the system on there to show people that I really have one or what? I was also gonna get one game. I got a second controller already.

No link here, just saw this on our 6 pm newscast.

A town of about 10,000 people outside of Milwuakee had 70 in the parking lot at the local Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart employees brought out 10 chairs and announced there are only 10 in stock.

They asked the crowd to line up outside the store in a corner. Fights broke out, one person landed in the hospital and 60 people left without a PS3.

            Thank you Ebay.

              The auctions can only run 1, 3, 5, 7, or 10 days.

A pic of your PS3 box and maybe a piece of paper with your ebay username on it might do the trick. Receipts help as well, but I personally, am suspicious of even the receipts.

They usually attract similar impulse crowds, so I don't think the closing price would differ that much. In other words, that's up to you, my man. If you wait until the holidays, you might want to get two games and the controller. Most Christmas bidders get into a one-stop shop mode.

I say wait a week or so. Wait 'till the 1st big group of PS3s are gone, then puts your up there when the 2nd shipment isn't in yet, and cash in.

Dude, dont blame ebay. You may as well blame the people selling them on ebay, but that would be wrong too. Sony deserves some blame here, but the idiots fighting for a gaming system are the ones who are showing their true class. Gee, and at a walmart. Who would've thought???

Yeah, you want a pic with your auction listing, preferably a pic of your actual system in hand. Reciepts can be photoshopped, but it wouldnt hurt to add it. Good luck!

Actually, the newscaster blamed Ebay. How about blaming the people buying the system for triple the value?

The newscaster could have blamed Craigslist just as well.

Blaming Ebay? Isn't that like blaming the nightly news for being criminal because they report crime?

Acutally, I see nothing wrong with the people buying the system for whatever the value. Supply vs. Demand my friend.

I do agree that Sony is to blame for some of this like Microsoft last year when releasing so few consoles. I blame the property owners of these stores more than anything else as they should just tell people that they can't line up and to get a system they must show up at open.
