Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Discussion
Originally posted by mudtigerI finished the main quest tonightI enjoyed the story but I got tired of the oblivion gates real quick. Anyone else think they were a bit boring and gamey? I just couldn't wait to get them over with. I wish I could start a new character after the whole oblivion mess because I don't think I'll ever do the main quest again, but I'd enjoy doing various character types for the thief/dark brotherhood guilds.

wow, wish I would have known that. I agree, the gates were pure crap. The first one was alright... but they should have been different on the insides. Throw some variety ya know.

My only complaint with Oblivion is that there is'nt much variety anywhere. You have your diffrent parts of the forest and each town has its own little nich but for the most part, everything looked the exact same. Imperial City is crap compared to Vivec.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Discussion
Yeah I did all but 2 of the achievements, so I said screw it...I'll just do all of the fun stuff with this one. I ran him through the Mage's Guild recommendation quests so I could get into the AU...enchanted a ring with Night-Eye and now I'll finish the Thieve's Guild (after redoing most of it).
Other than that, I haven't gotten a pure-marksman character up very high so it'll be a fresh experience.Comment

For the most part, I'm playing more of the game on my own terms by hunting, traveling, and collecting items so I could barter/sell so I could buy a horse and house. I tried to steal a horse and got busted, so I'm not that good of a thief yet. I have touched a few of the quests in the main game, but not nearly as much as I have spent exploring.
This is the type of game that I know will take me all year to beat since I'm spending a lot of my time exploring. We need to remember that 1,000's of years ago, this is how it was. Cities were populated, and not too many people lived in the outskirts. I haven't travelled as much as some of you guys, but I wish there were more houses out on their own instead of by a city. I have put in about 5 1/2 hours and I'm enjoying the game.
One thing that irritates me is the caves. Sometimes I have spent so much time fighting an endless amount of enemies it feels like and only not get much in treasure.Last edited by CaptainZombie; 04-10-2006, 11:19 AM.Comment

Originally posted by MetropolisI'm finding the same issues that you are with the infastructure of this game. I think that we are so used to games like GTA, TC, etc. that give us that a lot of variety, we feel like what happened here at times. Hopefully with the next installment they end up adding more things to the world. With the downloads of towns and quests, that may fix this for complaint for us.

The rewards are trash in the beggining of the game since you may be a low level. This is one of the complaints many have with the level scaling. You wont find unique items and lots of loot till you reach higher levels.
As for the infastucture, Morrowind spoiled me in that regard. GTA could'nt even compare to the diversity in towns and cities you found in Morrowind. Each part of the map also provided diffrent terrains which gave you a sense that you were in a real world. The towns seemed to provide much more culture than in Oblivion.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Discussion
Guys I need some help. I hate asking, but I seem to be stuck with what to do right now. I am about 8 hours in and only at level 2(don't laugh), and half way to leveling up. I cant seem to do anything. I always get killed trying to close the first gate, the arena kicks my arse, other quests seem to hard to finish. I have little money and it seems hard to find more. Should I join the guilds to get some money? Are there easier ways to level up? Buy the guide from the game store? Thanks for any help.

lol u don't need the guide... umm if ur really havin THAT much trouble with death... you can do this: adjust the difficulty slider to the left (although i recommend puttin it back up when u feel comfident enough)... that should make things a little easier... and yes... do join the guilds... it's good constant money when u take on missions and such.http://www.myspace.com/phillthegenesis

Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Discussion
The thing you have to keep in mind is that leveling up doesn't make it easier anyway. As you level up, so do your enemies, so it's scaled to always be about as difficult as it is now. If you're having trouble at level 2, you'll have the same trouble at level 20.
Might have to change up your strategy or grab some cash, load up on potions and just chug them like mad to get through it, it varies.Comment
